@rikschennink, PikPok's sample is very good. Just an idea but also looking at promo images of movies like deep impact, etc. might also help you...

Your game looks very good but I think you should change your icon. It's hard to tell what's the game is about, specially with the small icon size...
It looks like your game is suitable for it, so I would suggest going for coins route as well...

What ever you do, stay away from the seasonal apps... Easter, halloween, xmas ,etc ;) But doing a seasonal theme to your already successful app...
Previous posts are correct, ranking both charts are separated and raking in one won't affect the other when you switch your app between free & paid...
Have you looked at 3rd party services? Such as http://www.pubnub.com/
Just and idea but you may also consider working with a publisher as they will take care of those for you...
