Yep that's the point! And we believe most of these multiplayer problems are with Game Center itself, not the game. So, hopefully Apple addresses...

Yep, all modes can be played single-player; some play better than others. The campaign is both a single player campaign and multiplayer campaign....

Everything that can be done in multiplayer can in singleplayer as well. It's just... harder :p.
