They wouldn't have been 30th if we hadn't beat their asses down.

Also we won series against: Red Sox (swept), White Sox, Blue Jays and of course, the Orioles.

Solid 6 game losing streak for the Braves, thought we were gonna be good this year and send Bobby Cox out with a bang. Guess not, at least Jason Heyward has panned out pretty well

I'm a Rockies fan. They just got done taking it to the D-Backs. 12-1. It amazing how were even holding a 11-10 record. I mean with Hawpe, Francis, Street, De La Rosa, and Buchholz all on the DL, we should be doing way worse. A lot of people are picking up some slack though. Jimenez is a freaking beast. 5-0 with a .95 ERA, it's crazy. He also has a no-hitter this season. :D

lol Almost ashamed to admit it but I'm a long time Mets fan. They aren;t sucking so bad lately, won 8 of their last 9, but either way its highly unlikely that they'll make it to the postseason this year. Next year however, the pieces will start to fall into place. Ike Davis will start first, hopefully Thole will be up and Martinez as a backup outfielder. Add 2 real good starting pitchers through free agency or trade(get rid of Murphy) and the Mets will be WS contenders. They're starting to gain their spirit back already, will carry over into next year.

I'm a HUGE Yankee fan, from ny, but I go to college down south so we don't get any of the games, only the ones on ESPN....so I cant wait to get home next week for the summer n either watch on my plasma or go to every Yankee game! I'm pumped! And to the starter of this thread, we didn't spend much money at all this off-season, actually lost a lot of players. But yeah, we are going to get our 28th ring this year, because all of the talent we have, and to all who always b*tch and moan about us spending so much money, there's nothing from stopping your team from doing the same, tell them to get their yearly income up so they have the money to spend! It just so happens that the Yanks are the best and one of the oldest and the most popular team in baseball and make millions from people coming to games each year. LETS GO YANKS!

If you think it would be remotely possible for somewhere like Kansas city to spend $200MM, then you are an idiot. Most of the money the Yankees make do not come from ticket revenue.

If it were as easy as just saying that they wanted their "yearly income" up, I'm pretty sure there would be a lot of very wealthy people out there.

    See that part in bold?

    Fun fact:

most of the Yankee players on the payroll are homegrown, coming up through the farm system.

    As for the others:

The Granderson trade was about money? Nope. The Sox, Mets, etc., etc., etc., all had money too and they didn't pull off that trade. It was about Detroit getting rid of Granderson before they would have to pay him and picking up a good MLB ready prospect in return (Austin Jackson). The Yanks had the players Detroit wanted; the money aspect just made it so the Yanks could go after him and not really worry about it.

The Vasquez trade? Atlanta got Melky and a few other prospects in return. Vasquez wasn't "bought" if the Yanks gave up significant prospects to get him. He didn't "just" cost money.

    So cry me a river.

The Yanks make money off of things other than ticket sales? Sure. It's called being the most famous team in the most major media market in the US, which happens to be a baseball-centric town. How much money from revenue sharing are teams actually using. Oh, right...we know the owners are just lining their pockets with that dough, which they've done NOTHING to actually earn.

BTW, I'll make the yearly prediction:

The World Series will be a Subway Series.

The Mets are a looooooong shot...but the NL Wild Card is wide open, IMHO. And the Mets just really need one or two pieces to really step up (Beltran coming back, and a reliable starter behind Santana and Pelf, the latter of whom has stepped it up). Mejia has to go back to the minors so they can prep him as a starter though. Why he is in the pen is beyond me.

Alot of the Yankees best players were acquired via free agency or through trade.

A-rod, Tex, CC, Burnett, just to name a few.

Most teams have the same amount of homegrown players, they are just not able to retain them because they do not have insane payrolls.

There should absolutely be a salary cap in baseball.

Anybody who thinks the Yanks don't buy their championships is delusional.

And to the person who said the World Series will be a subway series: funny joke. The Mets aren't going anywhere.

I will tell you all now. I WISH the cubs would buy some talent every once in awhile. I mean they have the 3rd highest payroll after the yankees and red sox yet they have idiots like soriano hopping around in the outfield. i just want them to win but it seems like they dont use any of the money on their payroll. Look at the Rays, they have a low payroll but are so good this season. So its not all money obviously but when you have it, it helps (unless youre the cubs).

Until the cubs can lift the curse of the goat they'll never win the big one. Its a shame. Why did the guy bring a goat to a baseball game anyway.

I'm surprised we're four pages into this thread and noones mentioned the (second) biggest world series contender. Anyone heard of Albert Pujols?

I would probably rank the Phillies higher than the Cardinals.

Pujols Schmuhols. Give him 2 years and Ryan Braun will be the best hitter in baseball
