90s games you'd love to see for the iPhone

Problem with seeing some of the more intensive (time wise, anyway) games in these lists, is the battery life. I have the iPod Touch 3rd Gen, and if i start playing games on it, the battery life just vanishes. I'd love to see so many classics on this machine (including Heroes of Might and Magic 1 and 2, I wasted so many hours of my life on their demos alone), but if I'm getting two or three hours of play before losing all functionality out of it (i use it for browsing the net and games mostly, but do occasionally listen to music), then I'm better with something like the Pandora, and praying for decent Dos-Box emulation.

Saying that though, bring back Syndicate! :p

Do you know about Palm Heroes? Pretty much a remake (from what I've read - never played the HoMM series) of HoMM 1/2. It's definitely one of my favorite games.

I did look at that, but I know what will happen... I'll end up playing it until the iPod dies :p

heh heh. Actually it's not a huge battery hog. I've played it on my 3G for 1-2 hours at a time w/o using more than 50% of the battery. The only issue some people have with it is the controls - they're not perfect, but if you play a little while, you get used to them.

    Alone in the Dark

hm, can't believe I hadn't thought of this one earlier, but...

    Alone in the Dark.

Yes, the original, Lovecraftian, 1920s version. Not the crappy remakes that are really just tired ripoffs of Resident Evil (no offense to any who worked on said "ripoffs").

And for that matter... wouldn't mind the original
Alone in the Dark II &
    Alone in the Dark III

mmm... Danse Macabre, waltzing ghosts and Cthulesque beasts. It's never too late for Halloween.

    Outlaws

oh yeah,... and Lucas Arts' Outlaws.

Since Doom came out so well, I don't see why they couldn't port Outlaws to the iDevice.

I have heard a lot of great suggestions in this thread. Diablo, FF7, Oddworld, and several nintendo games we will probably never see. But I would like to add:

    - Killer Instinct (snes)
    - Tetris Attack (snes)
    - Sonic Pinball (genesis)
    - Golden Axe (genesis)
    - NFL Blitz (n64)

And I am sure there are plenty more.

I think I've seen enough side-scrollers for now. They don't work so well with a touch screen.

Some of the early PC stuff was tons of fun, but of course it all comes down to the implementation. Doom is great on iPhone, Duke3D not so much. I'd like to see these again:

    - Descent. it's 6 degrees of freedom were basically unplayable on a Playstation pad but could be workable with a touch screen.

    - Dark Forces. I love the Star Wars Doom clone.

    - Terminal Velocity or Fury3. Nanosaur, SciFly, and Above&Beyond Air Combat are a bit like this, but lack the arcade intensity and great soundtrack.

    - Escape Velocity. Mac-based sci-fi exploration and trading game.

    - Star Control 2 (or The Ur-Quan Masters). The Void comes closest to this, but it seems someone should have done a source port of this by now if it were simple to do so.

    - Elite or Frontier. 3D space fighting and trading, please. Warp Gate looks like the right idea.

    - Wing Commander or Privateer. Space shooting is my favorite.

    - System Shock. Creepy cyberpunk FPS adventure.

    - More SCUMM games like Monkey Island etc. We know these work well on the platform, and jailbreakers already have them.

    - Syndicate. Need some more early RTS on this platform.

And I played that "Conflict 2500" when it came out.

I see you're standing next to Eddie Dombrower (Earl Weaver Baseball) in the photo.

Not a computer game, but after seeing button men, I'd like to see dragon dice. That wasn't a bad dice game, just never seemed to get much popularity. However it should make a great iPod game!
