I like the regular bubbles. They are easy and move perfectly keep them just like they are. I also like the blocks but i have one complaint: can you make them able to be push off the side of the screen? I shoot one it hits a wall and flies up and then more come pretty soon i am over run (especially if a skull ball comes). If we could hit them off the screen it would help a lot.

As for the rise and fall balls: i like them they are challengeing but they give you enough time to react before they move.

Last there is the skull balls and we all know how i feel about that (to fast and hard and there is to many of them) maybe slow them down and put in a warning for when they are coming.

As a last note: just multiplayer for ipad?? Thats lame :p most people own ipods/iphones and would love a multiplayer on there.

I lied: in your question section i think you should add: what power ups should we make (so people could come up with ideas) and what cannon/level designs can you think of (i would love to see a skull, devil, and angel cannon design and maybe a heaven/hell theme)

I would do some very basic powerups for starters:

Shoot faster- makes your balls come out faster (or makes that bar at the bottom last forever)

Bigger balls-Makes your balls bigger or stronger (ROFL)

Exploding balls- what another person said about shots that blow up blocks/balls

Time stop- doesn't actually freeze time but slows down balls so you have more time to knock them out of the way.

Bonus balls- gives X amount of extra balls when collected (can vary depending on level/difficulty).

And maybe a power up that speeds up balls a little but gives you twice the amount of seconds. So for every second that goes by you get 2 seconds.

And of course a shield power up.

Edit: i find it funny that everyone has a life but me so i am the only one posting XD.

I am actually having a good time, although I haven't been able to get too far. I do think that once the object gets past the pink line, it shouldn't be able to hit you, as it's hard to see and aim and it accounts for a majority of deaths.
As for powerups, I'll try and think of some cool ones later, but how about a flamethrower? give it a range and whatever you shoot gets disentegrated.
about implementation, I think if you mixed it into the balls and made the player shoot them, that would be an excellent way to go.
I don't think making it hit your cannon is a good idea, but maybe make it get hit a certain number of times would work. Make it different for each powerup (more for stronger ones, etc.)

I just added our concept art for the final cannon shop to the main thread. What do you think? (also repeated here for ease!)

The prices are kinda low. I could afford everything in one game (i guess i am playing the beta and am on the hardest level). I am just curious how many cannons are going to be in the game when it is released. I've seen 7 different designs so far and they are all cool :)

I really like the look of those new cannons but I am wondering do those cannons only feature an esthetic upgrade? I can think of various upgrades that cannons can do

    -cannons that shoot more balls
    -cannons that shoot balls faster
    -cannons that have more ammo
-cannons that make the balls slow down

Now back to my impressions of the game. I was actually surprised to find out that the mode we are actually testing is the hardest difficulty. I thought that the game's difficulty was intended and it was meant to be played in short bursts. I personally have constantly gotten times above 40 seconds (which I think is good since this is the hardest difficulty).

That being said I am thoroughly enjoying the game and I am constantly trying to better my time. The only gripes I have are :

    a) An object that I previously thought I had disposed of either bounces off a wall and kills me or a fraction of the object catches my cannon and I die. This can be solved by doing what another tester suggested and making objects that have passed the ammo line no longer be in play.

    b) The ammo line is too obtrusive. I think it takes up too much screen space on my iPod and I believe that a simple numerical counter would be fine to show how much ammo is left.

    c) I find that the amount of ammo used for the 'big balls' is a little steep. This issue should be able to be resolved easily.

Finally I like how each object reacts differently to the balls.( A block spins when you hit it near to a corner etc). This really puts in a bit of skill level in the game that players like me enjoy :)

Yay another idea: you should add different bullet designs in the shop. That would be cool and give us more stuff to earn.

A couple ideas for power ups:

Big Balls - A power up that allows you to shoot bigger balls for a small amount of time.

Force Field - Gives you a force field that lasts about 10-15 seconds

Slow Mo - All the objects coming towards you slow down.

    Questions:

    1. What do you guys think about the individual objects and their patterns: spin block (yellow), ice block (green), skull ball, the sink ball, & the rise ball?

I think some of the objects felt very bland and not very interesting, however they did seem to fit with the theme/background which I guess is what you were going for.

How do you think these balls can interact with each other in interesting ways?

how about having some objects that repel certain ones and then you could have other ones that attract. some could shatter or break when they come in contact with a certain kind. maybe another kind could actually change shape/size when in hits another?

    2. What powerups should we add? Do you like the idea of making you have to push the powerup to hit your cannon to activate it?

powerups need to be fun and useful. obvious choices would be a shield, faster shooting etc. you could have one that completely destroys the objects when hit. different types of bullets.. a freeze bullet that slows the objects down, a fire one that burns them, a laser type one etc

overall I like the look of the game. gives a very trippy feelin almost like a painting that's come to life.
gameplay wise I must admit I got a little bored after about 30mins or so of playing. also I would suggest adding a tutorial because when I first started the game I had no idea what I was supposed to do and what the diff objects were.

A little peek behind the developer curtain:

Today, we've put most of our efforts into tweaking and balancing the gameplay for bubblegum ODYSSEY. There's a delicate balance we're looking to strike, and your feedback has been invaluable in gauging the changes we've been making. Our biggest challenge right now is having enough density to keep the gameplay dynamic and engaging while keeping the difficulty curve fair.

A new build should be finding its way to your TestFlight dashboards soon, with a slew of changes to the underlying spawn system that drives the game. Most of these changes are focused on having a smoother experience through the first minute of the game, while introducing all of our different objects.

Also, as many of you have already inferred, power ups will indeed be making an appearance in some capacity. While our primary goal is to balance gameplay without the powerups before adding them in, keep in mind the point at which the game starts feeling difficult—that's where we'll be focusing our next round of iterations.

Here's what you can let us know to help:
    - What patterns do you like the most? Like the least?
    - Are any object combinations particularly fun?
    - Have you had any epic moments in game?

Good luck, have fun, and keep up the great feedback!

    1. What patterns do you like the most? Like the least?
My 2 favorite ball patterns are the one where multiple spinning blocks come (like 3-4) and my other favorite pattern is the one where a bunch of spinning and ice blocks rain down all over the screen. They make things more interesting.

My least favorite ball patterns are anytime skull balls fall. Especially if i am in the middle of my second favorite pattern.

    2. Are any object combinations particularly fun?
Regular balls and spinning blocks are awesome. I love pushing the balls into the blocks while they are spinning and watching them get launched (sometimes into me XD)

    3. Have you had any epic moments in game?
Yes. I had 5 skull balls floating JUST above my cannon and i lived :D

Edit: the game is easier now with the new update. I like the increase in the falling balls.

I hate the yellow ones for bouncing off the edge of the screen at the bottom where I can't/it's really hard to see. Like I said earlier, easy fix by making the ammo bar where the blocks stop killing you.
I love it when you have some skull balls and the fast falling ones on top. Real challenge and sense of accomplishment there.
    epic moments? surviving that.

also, is there a way to see your high score? and what's the little numbers in the bottom left? frame rate? cause they'r around 26-31ish.
oh yeah, and IDK if others know this, but you can shoot big balls with 2 fingers. :)

EDIT:I just played a game where I had a skull ball under control and was firing straight at it moving it left a bit. then, another ball hit it, and even though I was concentrated on the ball, it went BAM! into my cannon. It would be nice if you are never overpowered because of the cannon. :)
also, IDK if I'm supposed to email this stuff, but it's a bit laggy coming out of the pause scree.

    - What patterns do you like the most?

I like the sculls. They look AMAZING!

    - Like the least?

The blocks. Yellow does not match the other objects

    - Are any object combinations particularly fun?

I like the fact that there is an order: purple balls then yellow squares the sculls

    - Have you had any epic moments in game?

Yes. All these balls were coming smack down the middle at me. Luckily I was fully recharged and was able to repel them back.

I found a bug. I'm on a 2nd gen iTouch. When I try to press on "shop", it doesn't work. It just moves the screen.

Hope that helps you guys. :)

just downloaded the new version. Much easier... occasionally the balls will pop in instead of slide in. IDK if that is a lag issue or something, but it isn't too noticeable. BTW, when you guys finish adding all the modes in, I have a couple ideas for modes that would be cool. ;)
if flipping the screen would be possible, please implement it. I really hate playing with my earphones on my left palm (ipod touch)

I was thinking about modes too. I was thinking thinking what about a mode that lets you choose what is thrown at you that way if you struggle with one type of obstacle you can practice just that.

Edit: yeah i noticed some balls pop in. It made it a lot harder because of less room. But it wasn't anything i couldn't handle.

Edit again: yay 1 minute 55 seconds. New record!!! (probably sucks compared to other peoples XD)
