This is definitely an awesome game. Patience is key with it, I have drifted off into space many times trying to rush through a level. Excellent job, dev.
I glad everyone likes it. If you have a moment, please leave a review in the app store. This morning I finished adjusting the "drift zones" every level. Previously if you got with 10pixels of the border it triggered the event. I moved those zones offscreen. Still looking at a few more bugs, and then I'll be submitting 1.1.
I see you have a lot of inspiration from flight control (menus) which is a good thing, and I too am loving the gameplay so far. At level 52 now. Good job!
I'm glad you're loving it. Tell your friends! I just uploaded version 1.1. It tweaks the 'drift zones' on the edge of the screen, previously if you go 10px from the edge it triggered. I moved them off screen. I also tweaked the asteroid belts to better represent the danger zones. Hopefully it's a quick review
I hope this will fix the wrong drifting. I am getting fristated to land on an asteroid just o be told I am drfting away. It reduces the fun
PocketGamer.co.uk just posted a more in depth review. they liked the game, but thought it was a little repetitive after awhile. I think they didn't play it long enough to see the good stuff http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPad/A+Long+Way+Home/review.asp?c=30813
I quite like it and I think you have potential to extend it. It is the perfect Space Odyssey 2001 generation game!
Love the music and art style but I do have one complaint. I'm on the 3rd galaxy and I keep dying for no reason other than "bogged down". On one stage I only have a few seconds before it restarts. Even if I nail my jump perfectly in a hurry I can't seem to beat the "clock". Is this intended or a bug?
in stage 3, you can only make 5 jumps before you get bogged down, the 6th jump will "bog you down" and reset the level. is that what is happening? or something else?
Ah thats it I was going nuts trying to figure out how to do it faster thinking there was a hidden timer rather than a jump limit.
The dude's grunting during a jump really breaks the atmosphere. It gets on my nerves quite a bit, unfortunately.
Appolicious reviewed the game: http://m.appolicious.com/games/articles/8519-ipad-game-a-long-way-home-is-out-of-this-world 1.1 is still in review, and 1.2 will be submitted shortly behind it.
