The game is intended to be a little more cerebral/slower-paced than an all-out action game, although there are some faster action sequences. Pure speedrunning-type levels could definitely be fun addition though, I agree.... maybe for future levels/dlc! Thanks! Not quite sure exactly when the game will be submitted, but hoping for within the next few weeks, with a bit of luck!
I've just had the privilege of trying this out, and all I can say is: It does not disappoint. I can see they've got a little bit of work left (relatively speaking), but it's just about all there, and they've done an incredibly slick job on it; it's gorgeous on the 3GS and plays very well with some great physical puzzle elements. This is going to be the 3D ball roller to beat on the App Store once it hits.
The colors remind me of one of the original Wipeout Pure tracks. That was the first thing that grabbed my attention. Will this most likely be available by the early summer?
Yep, should run pretty nicely on a 2nd gen iPod touch! Hasn't officially been tested on the iPad yet but should perform well also. The initial version will probably run in the usual compatibility mode, but we do intend to produce a HD-optimised version soon after release, as the higher-res art assets already exist. Certainly hoping to release by early summer... still a few things to do but seems to be on track I reckon
Looks like they pretty much covered my own nitpicks about it as well -- except level design which, while uniform across all levels, is still very slick. But I also know Synoptical are still working on some stuff, including an additional control mechanic which should make navigation a little easier. I suspect the significant issues will be ironed out by release time.
Yep, the PocketGamer preview, while definitely positive, was also quite fair really... that said, the build that was previewed is a few weeks old now (same build that you played actually, Mindfield.. hence the similar observations!), and the shortcomings mentioned have actually already been addressed. Glad they enjoyed it though, in any case Not quite actually, but thanks Pretty much the same end result as a cube map anyway!
Haven't made a final decision just yet, but most likely $1.99. Btw there's also another preview (although from the same build that PocketGamer previewed) over here: http://touchaholics.com/main/2010/06/23/hands-on-with-aerox-for-iphone-an-extremely-fun-tilt-and-roll-game/
Sorry for the lack of updates, things have just been a little hectic! The game is coming together nicely anyway, although the release date has obviously slipped a little, as you may have noticed! Just been slightly delayed with some final gameplay tweaks and fixes... Still, should be submitted to Apple for approval within a few days, with a bit of luck!
