anyone take cymbalta or paxil? i can't explain my situation in detail, but i will leave it at something absolutely terrible just happened in my life.
go see a therapist before you see a psychiatrist. medication is a very serious thing and can alter your brain and body in ways that you wouldn't expect.
Hate to say it but...drugs will cover up the problem, untill you need more, and then you're hooked. On the other hand, a friend of mine took some prescription drug to go to a very difficult funeral, it was helpfull at the time but it wasn't a full time solution. Drugs aren't the answer, the answer lies in you, only you can help yourself.
Drugs aren't the first thing you should rush to, try therapy or a psychiatrist. If you need the help of drugs, be careful with them, the downside is more severe than you would expect.
Don't. Just don't. I've seen people take them, and it leaves them worse off than they were before. Get through it naturally, maybe with a psychologist. Just trust me on this.
I just used this in another topic, but I now see that it is better off used in this situation to both A) describe the use of anti-depressants, and B) well... you'll see the irony.
You're absolutely right. I know a couple people who are and were on antidepressants and it only made them worst. That stuff messes with your head, making you feel wierd and happy one day and then miserable the next. Paxil is one of the worst ones, just ask around until you find some people who have been on it. Doctors don't know even the ones who prescribe it don't know(or care) so much because they arent the ones taking it they just read from a book and prescribe from what the book claims it does.
If something terrible has happened in your life, you would be better off talking to a counselor about it, and work through it. Antidepressants are usually prescribed for long-lasting forms of depression, not for sadness or depression that is related to a specific incident that has happened. Some people have chronic depression--goes on for years--and those are the people who usually take antidepressants. If several months go by and you still feel depressed, you might consider antidepressants...but hopefully that won't be the case for you. Find someone to talk to--that's the first step.
Same thing happened to me in the past, the worst possible thing in the world. I'm not going to sit here and talk about anti depressants like I'm a person who's never touched them. I know what I am talking about. Paxil sometimes does amazingly positive things BUT the withdrawal effects are hell on earth. This stuff has a half life of 24 hrs, if you skip even ONE dose, your brain craves it meaning you will have some strange symptoms. You could feel like you have the flu, a woozy feeling, "wooshing" sounds in your ears, "jolts" in your brain and other nightmarish effects once you stop taking it. Discuss the pros and cons of this with your therapist, GET HELP! Some people don't take meds at all and cope with therapy along with natural alternatives. If you need advice, PM me. I am very sorry for this difficult time for you. You will be ok but you must get help
if something bad happened in your life that has caused you to feel depressed, you need to talk to a psychologist or psychiatrist, a counselor, someone in mental health care. if you've never suffered from depression before, it's most likely situational depression and therapy is a much better solution. if you see a psychiatrist, and they recommend medication, then you need to understand the side effects and potential risks of taking medication. medication may work well on the majority of people who take any given medication, but some people have adverse effects, some of which can be severe, and you need to know the potential side effects before choosing to take medication. medicine for depression attempts to correct chemical imbalances in the brain, as a result, some people do react badly to them, while some people react well, and the medication corrects the problem. However, deciding to use medication is a big decision that should not be taken lightly, and should be used as a last resort if therapy does not work. Pm me if you have any questions or want to talk to someone, i have experience in dealing with difficult situations.
Do not listen to that, stay away from pharmaceutical drugs as much as possible. Try this: http://altmedicine.about.com/od/healthconditionsatod/a/Depression1.htm Before drugs Also, take a lot of vitamin d or go in the sun.
Don't listen to the people here. Talk to a professional. Everyone reacts differently. I know some who have had tremendous success and others who have had to try various medications until they found the one that worked for "them". Again, speak with a professional. Good luck and you can always count on support here. Or at least a place to make you laugh.
