    Apple:

"And people are starting to see what a great gaming device this is. When you think about the companies that came before us... when you played those other systems, they seemed so cool, but now when you look at them, they don't stack up against the iPod touch."

Too bad that 99% of those 21178 games are garbage.

I also thought their comparison certainly lacked taste.

My thoughts when I heard that as well - when you just look at the quality titles available (remove the "fart" and other juvenile/worthless apps from the number Apple showed), that levels the playing field considerably

Well definitely not 99%, but to be completely fair and realistic, about 90% of the iPhone games out are garbage. That leaves about 2000 good ones. Of course about 90% of the DS and PSP libraries are crap too, and crap that costs more per flush. So technically the iPhone is still on top :D

    * Disclaimer- I own a DS Lite too with about 50 of the 368 "good" games out there ;)

99.8% to be precise. Quality> Quantity. Sony and Nintendo are making the correct choice.

I don't think numbers is a way of comparing. That bar chart almost seems like a child's conclusion -- "I got more so I'm better than you".The best games on the ds and psp are still better than any game on the iphone imho, at least for the moment. :)

Personally out of my 9 months of experience, I think that 82% of applications are a piece of crap... There is a lot of good games out there for the iPod Touch/iphone which still probably has more games than the DS, including the free ones that are good...

How does anyone here have the right to say what percentage are crap if you don't even own 1% of those 22000 games? When you have all 22,000 games, tell us how many are crap and I'll be happy to listen.

I agree that a large percentage of the games are very bad...We must keep in mind than each person has their own taste, so bad to me might be fun to someone else..... HOWEVER , I am having more fun with the good apps than I have had for years.......since nes, snes days :) Not sure why but am addicted to games again :)

  15. the rate of games worth playing versus games available is:
    a) subject to taste
    b) age
    c) severely lop-sided regardless of a) & b)
    d) all of the above

The i-device is gaining cred in my eyes as being THE next gen handheld device...despite the overwhleming amount of forgettable apps/games available for it.
My DS hasnt seen the light of day since..um..June...when i got my ipod touch.
Despite having only a handful of real contenders for serious gaming titles, i reckon the way is paved with gold as far as developers are concerned. The PSP and the DSi are FOLLOWING the trend set by Apple with its cheaper games, app-store and pick-up and play titles. In return i think Apple is BUILDING on a well established market thanks to these two competitors. The touch screen, firmware updates, wi-fi gaming, landscape-wide screen were all here before iphone.

So i dont buy into the figures...pfft..they are just trying to 'show off'.
Weve already seen that they cant accurately tell us whats selling and who's winning the race here. We are just made even more aware that there is an immense amount of crap available for this particluar device.

If you look at Japans sales, apparently the DS and PSP are still selling a bazillion units of games every week...so where do you draw the comparisons?

When did I last take Gran Turismo out of my PS? Years ago.
Do I have saved game so I can continue? Yes.

Does the same apply to all my PS1 / 2 /3, DS, Gameboy, GBA, SNES, PSP, Xbox, 360? Yes.

If I remove Marple from my iPod Touch will my progress be saved anywhere at all that I can get at without also having to reload the entire library and reset other games? No.

And yet again I say that the idevice is not a serious games machine.

I think it's too early for Apple to be saying that the iDevices are better for gaming than the PSP and DSi. They still haven't reach the point when they can say there the best since there's not a big number of amazing games for the iDevices. They should start sayin that in a year or two when there is a way larger variety of great games. But if Apple is gonna reach that point, developers need to pick up the pace and make more awesome games on a consistant basis like Gameloft............

Even though i think the iPhone and iPod touch are way better and cooler than the PSP and DSi overall!

The top of the DS and PSP is superior to the top of the iPhone. However the thing the iPhone has got going is you can buy 3-30 good games for the same price as one on DS and PSP.

    Slaving peon.
Not here; not there; not anywhere!
I wouldn't be surprised if Apple also counted all lite versions. Those could very well make up a quarter or even a third of all apps. Talk about bogus statistics.

There some good games for iPhone/iPod. But I only have about 40 games on it that I want to play. About 5 I play often. And most of the time it's to waste a bit of time.

I have played way more then that though and most I hated. And the rest on the App Store are junk I wouldn't touch.

Nothing on the iPod that I have really sunk more then half a hour into. A lot of the games lack depth.

For example show me a Gran Turismo PSP(coming out soon), show me a game that looks that good and has that much depth on iPhone. Real Racing is the closest and it only has 4 cars and few tracks.
