It literally is just a giant iPod touch, looks like flash support is still missing.. The same four icon layout spread apart? The lock screen still does not show any useful information? WTF Apple? iPad? iPad? I could not be more disappointed.
It should be no surprise that flash support is missing. The closed ecosystem of the AppStore ensures that Apple profits from every pay download, and that apps don't have to compete with free online flash content.
Or maybe Adobe won't let them use Flash. Maybe Adobe wants to save that "tech" for their own devices. And I think the iPad is a fine name, but it does look like a giant iPod touch. If I was into movies, photos, and books, I'd have a use for it.
That's why I didn't get my hopes up, and have been, in fact, saying that this is a confusing little product from Apple. Sad to see that Jobs thinks it's "the most important product" he's ever been helped develop. It's an outsized iPod touch/iPhone. Wow. It's really a reactionary move by Apple, IMHO. There were some that wanted Apple to get into the netbook market. Jobs answered that most anything netbooks do, iPhone does. People wanted more. Requests were made for a bigger screen iPhone/iPod touch. Well, now they developed it. And it's as underwhelming as I'd thought it'd be. Meanwhile, AppleTV, the product that SHOULD be of more importance, as it could do for the living room what iPhone did for the mobile market, is virtually ignored. It's a "hobby".
Well that's a hell of a reason to gimp support for something that's used for the majority of online streaming video isn't it? My parents have an Apple TV, the thing flat out sucks. I've spent more time converting video to mp4 then they've spent watching it. Meanwhile for the less then half the price an HP box plays everything and with an external 1TB hard drive costs roughly the same as Apple's 160GB model.
Kinda yeah. I don't know anyone who would rather play the same game on a giant device with a bezel that large. I imagine the control options will range from uncomfortable to unusable.
