My predictions: - Announced this month, sold in June/July. - Two sizes: 7 inch ($600) 10 inch ($800) - It'll be much closer to the iPhone OS than Mac OSX. - The name won't be associated with the Mac. Apple wants the Tablet to be part of a new, emerging market. It won't be called the Tablet either, since tablets are generally associated with failure. In the past Apple have chosen names that are not tied down to the specific device (e.g. iPod, Mac), so it's anybody's guess really. - Wifi, bluetooth, 3G and a SIM slot. Unlocked. - It probably will come with bundled versions of iLife, seeing as Apple know what a strong selling point iLife is. - A strong focus on the ebook market. - Multitasking. You can open several iPhone screen sized apps and move them about the screen. This is not going to happen btw. - iTunes Extras and LPs. The biggest challenge for Apple will be keeping the weight down. You’ll have to be able to hold it comfortably in one hand. I don't think we'll see a camera in the first iteration. Just a hunch of mine. I just can't wait to see where gaming goes with this. If they pack a pretty a powerful GPU in there I think we'll see some amazing games, from a visual POV.
everything in this thread that is 'official' is obviously still unofficial, and as usual, probably a million miles away from what is/will be official anyway, i'll be buying one. i've got an original 1st gen 8 gig Touch. which i adore and caress on a daily bases for most of the day. and i've been holding off updating for the last couple of years. my only 2 gripes are lack of mobile or go anywhere internet, and too small a screen. Hopefully the tablet will solve both these issues. it'll definitely solve the screen size issue, and hopefully we can sync over all our existing apps and games onto it. But my biggest hope is the integration of the mobile or go anywhere internet. whether this be via a dongle, or a pay as you go or a monthly or a single standing charge costing scheme, i dont care. as long as it's up and working a grand??? ok. sounds like a fair cop. havent treated myself in a year or 3.
It'd be a nice enough name (if not slightly perverted), but I think they know it'd cause too much confusion.
Can you imagine people not wanting to make games designed specifically for it? If I was a dev I'd be all over the new power that thing provides (hopefully).
Here's a quick thrown-together pic on how I think controls for some games are gonna work: Obviously the button layout is not very aesthetically pleasing, but a little tweaking could fix that. That's roughly a 10 inch screen in the iPhone screen format. So that's probably the same size as the RAT. The buttons are the same size as N.O.V.A. on the iPhone.
i think the best game that will be(i hope) for islate its touchgrind.they have a demo of giant touch screen and looks ver cool.
If you mean run full OS X apps and allow keyboard & mouse support it should be able to do that. If you mean have a keyboard & mouse built in with a flipable display that concept hasn't exactly worked out well for the tablet market. Personally I'm hoping for some kind of docking solution. Some company was showing off a prototype tablet at CES with a dock that has a built in keyboard and doubles as a large secondary battery.
Agreed. Running Mac OS X on the iSlate would be highly inefficient and not streamlined. The iPhone OS is optimized for touch-screen devices with not much processing power. Well, it will probably run a specialized version of iWork . . .
