this is a comment asking for a promo code on a popular site that i know of: i see this a lot now, and i question whether the developer believes this claim or not. The person doesnt even name their "popular app review site." The developer actually sent a promo code to this person. So do you think the developer is so desperate for attention that he gives a code to this person, even though it is highly unlikly he will get a review?
When I released Rail Adventures, I gave the FIRST person that asked, a free promo code. It wasn't for a review or anything, he just asked, and I gave the first promo code away just like that ... for good luck. As a developer, I don't believe such claims. I give away plenty of free copies for reviews, but the request are legitimate and done through original channels (not on forums and definitely not using hotmail addresses.)
"Selling my webcam" ... this sums it up pretty nicely. What serious reviewer is selling his/her webcam? Do these things actually have a market value? He has such a huge and successful website that he needs to sell his webcam for $5 to get some cash. There is no research needed here. P.S: The last webcam I had lying around here unused, I gave it away for free, just to save space.
