Are Asphalt 4 and 5 worth getting? I love 6 and 7, and have thought of getting those older games - but they are definitely costly in comparison.
Sorry, but the physics in all previous versions (and I've had them all from Urban GT, the very first version nine years ago) were very basic and had more to do with scripting than an actual physics engine. Gameloft themselves know this and its the primary reason they are promoting the new physics engine in this one so much. They've gone to an awful lot of effort to make the physics more intense and realistic (with a strong arcade influence of course). Now, I'm obviously a fan if I've owned and looked forward to every version but lets be realistic that the physics was a bit lacking in previous versions. And applaud the fact that the "new" Gameloft (as I see it, they've stepped up big time to improve everything, hence "new") have gone to such a strong effort to address what was previously lacking. Its a very positive step. Controls are something I agree that Gameloft always gets right in just about every game. They really are the gold standard in shooters and racers in relation to controls. Edit. On the release date, Gangstar's unpredictable release (stealth Friday drop) and obvious change of strategy has made it slightly difficult to predict release dates so I'm ruling nothing out until next Thursday rolls around.
Physics is everything... If I had to have only one game on my iPhone: Asphalt 8 NO DOUBT! Anyway... I'm absolutely curious about this Mode called Infected! Am I seeing things or it's a nuclear symbol at left? Guess we have to catch that symbol just like nitro and others...
Its kind of a "tag, you're it" mode. If you're infected, you have to pass it on to another car by hitting it and then you have to avoid getting hit and infected again. Should be a lot of fun. Edit. You have 20 secs to pass it on before you're eliminated. So a cross between "tag you're it" and elimination is probably more accurate.
WOW! You're right! "Should be a lot of fun" But we have to catch it in a circuit, right? Because if you watch closer... There is one ahead, closer to letter N of INFECTED! Is it possible make the jumps being infected?
Ooh, the Ganstar stealth drop is a good point. It they do the same with A8, it could release on any date, and I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same with this game!
Yep, jumps are possible. Its the same tracks and set up as in the game. Jumps might be better used when trying to escape a chasing car though Not sure what you meant on the circuit point but my impression is that you are infected and have to pass it on and then avoid getting reinfected or if you do, pass it on again, over a set amount of laps and if you're infected for 20 seconds, you're eliminated. It has a knockout type of element to it as well in the passing the infection along part.
I wouldn't be disappointed if they wouldn't change physics at all. But let's see I hope they don't change the physics engine on driving/controls too much. It is and was perfect from A4 to A7 with slightly improvements for advanced controls (p. e. gyro sensors). Statement from an official source: Quote: There is no statement about driving/physics. Just crashes and impacts. But again: Let's wait and be surprised then More intense and realistic is always good. I mean: We played the Asphalt series so much (months, literally) and always wondered how you could make the physics even better. They were always perfect for us at their times. There was (and is) no racer with better physics. Anyway. There MUST be some new physics because the cars can tilt now (and make pirouettes in the air according to some videos).
Once you starts the pirouettes, you won't rule over the car anymore. It's like a pause of 5 seconds to take a breath. More or less like Asphalt 5 jumps. Same ideia! You just have to wait the end of the jump to drive again!
The controls are something Gameloft always gets right, well the vast majority of the time anyway. The actual controlling of car are improved for this. Not changed as such, just improved and in relation to a lot more control over the top high speed cars is what they have indicated. I can put it to you this way, rather than be surprised, you'll probably be amazed with this one. Obviously you love the last one and played it a lot. But for this the physics will simply be better. I suspect the improvements on this one will make it difficult to go back. (I mean that in a good way of course) Edit. As Dant ponic says above, you won't control the movement on a jump by the looks of it. The game will determine the movement a car makes in a jump and the physics engine will dictate that movement and reaction and factor in outside impacts and other factors. All very dramatic and entertaining by the looks of it. But far more random and unscripted which should lead to some very interesting crashes. And some very nice eye candy while having a very brief breather.
Can't wait for this. Just hope it doesn't take up more than the 1.8 gigs from NFS:MW that I'd be purging for it. After experimenting with the $.99 price tag (and oddly making a game that really didn't require any IAPs, making it a steal), wonder if they'll go back to the $6.99 usual premium price point.
