Actually, STP gave it a 3 out of 4, not out of 5. My main issue with this thread is with the use of the term "overrated" as if it were some kind of objective measurement that can be discussed in a forum. I have no problem with people who don't like AC2, or who think it's just alright. As I said above, it's mostly a matter of taste. But when someone starts a thread stating that the game is overrated, they seem to imply that there's something wrong with being enthusiastic about it. I find that pretty offensive.
i think you'd be taking it the wrong way then. usually when someone finds something overrated, they personally don't find the title living up to the praise that is surrounding it. creating a thread for it probably means they're curious if others out there share that same feeling. it's just another form of opinion. and well, that's really nothing to be offended by. and 3 out of 5 or 3 out of 4, it was really the content of the review that was important, and what i found i agreed with most.
To say that something is overrated is to say that those who rate it highly are wrong. There's no semantic wiggle room there. It assumes the possibility of an objective assesment. I find that both asinine and intellectually careless. There are other ways to express your opinion that do not put those who disagree with you in the defensive. And by the way 3/4 is a passing grade. 3/5 is not. And, personally, I have yet to encounter any of the problems they "identified."
The game has tons of replayability. You get Animus Hack points at the end of each level, those points are used to unlocked Hacks. So ultimately u have to get perfect score(100 max) on each level to unlock the last health regen hack. Hence, u have to go thru a lot trial and error to get perfect rating for every single level. This game is not just hack-n-slash game. There are 3 different kinds of stage: Normal, Speed Run and Stealth. In Normal stage, u can either go with the hack-n-slash route or stealth route or both. Speed Run gives you a great sense of speed on this side scroller, with archers arrows land right behind u constantly, one mistake u should get knocked down from the air. I should simply say Speed Run sometimes feel like Sonic. Stealth stage is one of the best and also the most challenging one. If u are spotted 4 times, game over. It's common to restart the stage several times just to get to know enemies' position, where to jump and where to land, etc. Even more retries if u want perfect rating. The game is not simply hack-n-slash, again. Some enemy is impossible to fight again by simply tap attack button.l; some enemy will break thru ur block; some enemy blocks all the time. You have to learn how to break their guard if they always block. You have to learn how to couter attack when facing multiple enemies. Some t enemy attack so fast it's just so hard to counter attack, let along it's the same type of enemy who can break your guard. I admit playing this game for more than 30 min can get really boring and frustrating. However, when I'm in that mood, I simply stop playing and come back 15 min later. It's always fun to go thru a stage within 15 min on the subway (sry for typo, I type on iPhon)
The plot kicks ass compared to other games. Such as all of gameloft's (the ones they didn't just port, that is). It is very very polished (except for the UI for some reason), the voiceovers are actually good, and did I mention killing people is freaking fun to watch? Like GTA, you have to play the game a LOT to get 100% completion. I doubt many people will, but the prospect of unlockables drives me on. The sound effects are perfect, the gameplay is harrowing and actually fun, compared to AC1 which made me want to punch a baby. Don't dismiss it just because it's a 2(.5)d platformer! Genre has nothing to do with a game's actually goodness, just your own opinion. A game can't be overrated when people are actually enjoying it, and they are.
Please don't say this! I've only just bought it after only hearing the good points of it and now finally (too late) we get the other side... Oh well, everyones different.
I am not saying that there is anything wrong with being "enthusiastic". I am merely saying that it has received an undue amount of praise. I am saying that it is a good game. but nothing to go crazy over; it is not a "revolutionary" game, as many people have claimed
no, he's just saying that he doesn't like the title as much as you guys do. you're taking the term overrated and trying to twist it into some sort of factual statement, when it's just a term one uses to express their opinion. i mean, my god, if you go to dictionary.com and look up the term, the example they give of it being used is this "I think you overrate their political influence." it's like if i told my cousin that 2001:a space odyssey is the best movie of all time, he goes and watches it, and then comes back and tells me "that wasn't as good as you made it out to be, you totally overrate that film." that just means he obviously doesn't rate it as highly as i do. he's not saying i'm wrong for liking it as much as i do. because guess what, that's how opinions work. look, i would agree with you if he came in and made a topic that went along the lines of "HEY this game blows ass, and you're all wrong if you disagree with me!" but that never happened. he even asked those on both sides to express their opinions openly. if his statements put you into the defensive when it comes to his little video game opinions, that's your own fault.
I don't think it's overrated, simply because it don't think it was as overhyped as some games (hello Minigore, I'm talking to you). I think the game is great, but I certainly don't have a problem with this thread. Many people may think that it IS overrated. You can even like the game and still think it's overrated. I own games like that. I like Canabalt and also think that it's overrated.
yeah, it's safe to say that minigore episode 1 will always be the KING of overrated launches in the history of the appstore. and hey, i still enjoyed it for what it was, and it's certainly a well rounded app at this point in time. also, for a split second there while reading the touch arcade front page, i thought they were going to update AC2 with a multiplayer mode which would easily make that 10 dollar pricetag more than worth it. you'd get a fairly decent game along with some online multiplayer. but of course, it looks like ubisoft is going to charge it as a separate app instead. smart moneymaking move for them, not so great for the fans. i'm not faulting a business for that, but hey, it would've been pretty sweet.
Ya.....how do u think the multiplayer will be? Looks better than the actualy game for me but of course, if It only works on wifi a $10 pricetag might not b justified.......not too worried about the top down view because Rockstar has proved that a top down view can be accomplished with great success. If it works on a 3G network it might b worth the cash
