Looks fantastic! Barbarian looks pretty badass, in particular.

When pushing the pause button, will we be able to give commands during the pause like in baldur's gate or will batteheart be realtime and action oriented?

A bard! Nice heh... So then a question: earlier you said that the only pieces of equipment that can change on the characters are their weapons. Since the Bard's weapon in the screenshot is a lute, does he get other instruments and do they show up like weapons do?

To avoid having to redo the bard's posing and animation entirely for every conceivable instrument, thus making him far more complicated than any other character, we decided instead to just have him always have a lute and he just upgrades the strings (from pedestrian ones to magical ones etc.)

The combat is entirely real time and has been designed around (hopefully) being manageable without the need to pause and give orders. The main reasons that became necessary in baldur's gate and dragon age is because (1) each party member had a LOT of powers and items available to use and (2) enemies and players alike could die in mere seconds. Without the ability to freeze time and give orders, you'd get splattered in seconds.

Our overall pace is slower and more forgiving, everything is 2d and fits on screen at once, and each unit only has at most 3 activated powers, so it'll be a lot more manageable. If manual pausing (or simply freezing time while you're in the middle of giving an order) still seems necessary its something we could add easily though.

Will we see a hands-demo showing the controls/menus before release? I really want to see the battle system in use.

OMG Pirates is brilliant. I'm glad that MikaMobile has decided to do something super ambitious by developing an RPG. Their art style is beautiful and I can't wait to play this on my iPad. Looks like a winner to me.

    I will say, impressive indeed!

This will be the first, of your games I have ever intended to purchase. I dig the art style and it seems to play nicely.

I hope this will be universal, as I won't purchase an iPad version (without any extras, over an iPhone version). They're usually more money with no incentive to give more money for it. Been a day one owner and have bought too many "iPad optimized" apps, realizing the iPhone version was just as sufficient.

Also, is there any timeframe for release?

I'd assume December...but any ideas as for mid, early or late December?

I'm really wanting to play this, Aralon and Infinity Blade before Chrismahanakwanzakah.

@Pacificsun0481 - Yup, it'll be universal. A release in in time for Christmas is still conceivable, the big question mark in our schedule is bosses - depending on how crazy we get with them they might require quite a bit of unique art/sound/etc.

@JoEDigiTECH - glad you enjoyed OMG. While each of our games has been a different genre so far, I think I can confidently say that Battleheart pretty much shames our previous apps in sheer polish, design, and amount of content. Hope you agree!

@CoagulatedSpam - do you mean a demo on a physical device where you can see our fingers, as opposed to our direct-feed trailers? That could be done, possibly. I'll see about doing that for our next video, which will probably be pretty close to release.

Any idea on price yet guys? This game looks amazing! I just hope it doesn't dent my wallet.

Plus, will it run on 3.x iTouch 2G?

We frequently test on an iTouch 2G and it runs very well on it, so no problems there. I'd recommend upgrading to iOS 4.0+ if you can though, the latest OS has improved OpenGL drivers that make many games (ours included) run a little smoother, but its not a deal breaker.

The only hardware I'd say is borderline is the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G. The game is playable on those phones, but once you've seen it running on a retina display at 60fps it's hard to look back. :)

Not sure about price yet, honestly I haven't really put much thought into it. I'll have to get back to you on that one.

I am avoiding iOS 4 because of battery reasons. My battery dies REALLY fast on 4.x

Yeah, I do mean a physical device with fingers running wild. Personally, I'd like to see it on an iPhone, because that's what I play on, however what you feel is more appropriate - use that.

I want to see what it's like to bat your fingers around the screen when you're assigning all of your targets and choosing abilities.

    Mikamobile,

I was reading the developer area of TouchArcade. I saw some developers don't like the extra work in making an app universal.

I wanted to state that, not only does your game look astonishingly awesome, but it's also one of my most wanted holiday releases.

I am also buying this the second it is released, mainly because of your effort to share the game (universal) with iPad owners, too.

We are 2 iPad household, and relatives own other Apple devices (iPod touch) - so you can bet, if the game plays as well as it looks (no idea why it wouldnt) I will be recommending this title to others.

Especially, because you put in that extra bit to share the love with iPad owners. Had you released, the same exact game but as a more expensive hd version - I would have passed, out of principle. Not because of price or value, but out of greed. Especially had the 2 versions been the same ( iPhone 4 owners not charged more for retina)

    Sorry. Longwinded.

    Just a SINCERE thanks!

How is that polish going? Which character, is your favorite as the developer?

I dig the Bard. Great class, often forgotten in RPGs, lately.

I believe there are 8 classes, how many abilities does each class have?

Sorry if that has been asked/answered already...

Thanks for the kind words. I will say that making an app universal is kind of a pain in the butt if you don't plan for it from the beginning. This is why we've failed to release an "HD" update to OMG Pirates thus far - our art just wasn't authored at high enough resolution, nor was our UI designed to be easily adapted to different aspect ratios, so it would require a massive amount of rework. We learned from our mistakes though and Battleheart's art is all authored at very high resolution, and the code at work under the hood is much smarter and easier to maintain. It may not be evident when you play it, but it makes our lives easier when we do stuff like universal support, adding new content down the line, etc.

The 8 classes have 5 unique activated abilities, of which you can equip 3 at a time. These are things like meteor strikes, group healing spells, poisoned daggers, defensive and offensive powerups, etc, each of which has a cooldown of some length. In addition, each class has 6 passive abilities that you can choose half. Some examples - a wizard can choose between a bonus to his single target damage, or having his basic attack deal damage in a small radius. A monk can have a passive chance to knock opponents off their feet, or a chance to deal critical damage. These active and passive power choices are slowly unlocked as you play, so its not too overwhelming when you first begin.

It's hard to say which class is my favorite so far, though I'm drawn to some of the more unusual ones. The barbarian is pretty fun right now because of his high risk/high reward playstyle. He's capable of "enraging" which gives him both a bonus to damage dealt AND taken, so used at the wrong time it can get him killed.

I'll see about having our next video be taken off a live device so you can see fingers a-flyin'.
