I'm looking for some suggestions for good comic book storyline. I used to be a big comic book reader and I've somewhat fallen out of the scene but I want to jump back in to it. The last good read I had was the whole Wolverine: Old Man Logan which I thought was awesome.

So please, write down your favorites and tell us why they're great.

The Walking Dead... look no further.

Read them all. Then watch the series.

Grant Morrison's Batman from the Batman and Son arc through to Batman INC right now, or maybe Ultimate Spider-man if you've never read it?

Hrmmm, old Cable fan here so I gotta go with the Twelve Saga (with the stuff before and after , like Wolverine becoming the horseman of death), the culmination of which involves Cable actually killing The Big Blue like he was propheted to have done.

As you said to have already been a big comic book reader, I'll assume you read all the classics:

-Alan Moore's Watchmen / Promethea / Swamp Thing / From Hell / The Killing Joke / League of Extraordinary Gentlemen / V For Vendetta / (insert nearly anything else he ever done)
-Frank Miller's Dark Knight / Batman Year One / Daredevil + Elektra (various titles) / Sin City / 300 / Wolverine / Martha Washington
    -Neil Gaiman's Sandman / Death
    -Warren Ellis' Planetary / Transmetropolitan
    -Grant Morrison's The Invisibles / Animal Man / Arkham Asylum / We3
-A few mainstream sagas, such as X-Men's Dark Phoenix Saga / Legion of Super Heroes' Eternal Darkness Saga

Just to name a few

Nowadays there are not that many excellent comics, a few occasional good runs such as All-Star Superman and the (awesone) Whedon/Cassaday's Astonishing X-Men.

The only ongoing series I would recommend right now is The Walking Dead. Robert Kirkman is no Alan Moore of writing nor Charlie Adlard a Cassaday of inks, but the pace of the story, atmosphere and characters are amazing; and that's coming from a guy who was never into this zombie craze. It has also a TV series but, though I know some will disagree, IMO is crap compared to the comics.

Chew (on-going) - biting wit (pun intended) and morbidly funny twist on the mystery genre
The Unwritten (on-going) - What if everything written about you was true?
The Luna Brothers "Sword" (completed) - Epic
Terry Moore's "Echo" (almost completed) - perfect characterization, incredible B&W artwork and throat-strangling action
The Killer - get inside his head and see the Abyss
