His opinion is as valid as he wants it to be. Do you ever have anything nice to say? What, ran out of puppies to beat?
It was only a matter of time before Aurora showed up to an RPG thread to bash anything that isn't Asian.
I've tried quite a few like Seed, Inotia, Inotia 2, Zenonia, etc ... So far, they are all just badly translated JRPG kids games with a barely understandable plot riffing on concepts that got old 10 years ago, relying solely on their gameplay which is, mostly, just grinding around and doing "fetch me a stick" quests. The only other examples which vary from that horrible formula would be The Quest series and Undercroft, both of which suffer from "ass ugly" disease as well as unintuitive interfaces which became obsolete TWENTY years ago and overly complicated inventory/quest systems. In short, in my opinion, there isn't a "best" rpg for iDevice, just a sea of mediocrity. Lower your standards for the old iDevice. Try finding a stick game, or a tower defense game. Maybe a game with blocks. There are loads of those.
Zenonia 2, Across Age, RPG's by mist walker and square enix (not FF1&2) caligo chaser, MMO by quantum squid. thing is, all of these are still "coming soon" Inotia 2 and The Quest is good
You are pretty much correct, although I have not played Undercroft yet so I will reserve judgment on that one because Rake in Grass is an excellent developer. Dungeon Hunter is OK if you have never ever played an RPG and just want to learn the basic mechanics. But it has a very generic feel to it. The story and enemies were as generic as i could imagine. You killed them all by hacking them and maybe casting a freeze spell on them to slow them down. Dragon Age: Origins is now available for the Mac as well as PC if anyone wants to play a real RPG. Skip the console version if possible, the PC/MAC version is better.
Unfortunately, the best RPG on the idevices at the moment is Sword and Poker. While a great game with solid mechanics, the fact that it is not a "true" rpg speaks volumes as to how weak the current RPG selection is atm. Zenonia suffers from difficult controls (when a monster can take out half your health or more in a single poison-based attack, you need to be precise), a burdensome weight system, and more grinding than most people would like (although I find the grinding perfectly acceptable, this may just be because I played WoW). Inotia 2 is plagued with strange storyline contrivances and half-completed mechanics. Inotia 1 is not worth the look. Vay is...well, we call it "Oy Vey" over here. Just sit on your haunches and wait for Zenonia 2 / FF 1+2 / Quantum Squid's new gem. I'm waiting on Devil's gopher, which looks like a ton of wicked RPG fun + humor. Once it's out of beta (and if it has the promised MMO element) I will be laughing with glee.
The quest does not have an intuitive interface Undercroft... it's my second favorite iTouch RPG at the moment... Vay is the best so far! I don't know why but usually those weak graphics would kill it for me but there was just something about that game that kept me playing to the bitter end!
Golden Sun DS best game ever. Go wait for it to come out if you have a DS. Go buy a DS if you don't own one.
Am I the only one who thinks Vay is terrible? I have not been all that satisfied by the RPGs I've played in the App Store. Zenonia was fun for about 5 hours and then it got old fast for me. And The Quest, I got frustrated by, well, the quests in it. But it's all subjective, those two were not bad games, although Zenonia really gives off a cell-phony sort of vibe, which was kind of a turn off. I'm looking forward to FFI&II coming out, they should (SHOULD) be good. Gotta wait though. And hopefully, it'll open the floodgates for Square games, and if that's the case, this thread will have some good stuff in it.
