I lost interest quickly, learning progress was too slow for my taste. I did not feel like I could write a real application once I finished the book I bought anyway, which is Kochan's Objective C. It seems to be a good book, but getting anywhere in Xcode or any game engine would require a lot of additional time commitment beyond finishing it.

it took me 6 months just to scratch the surface of 3D modeling, and another 2 years of self-learning to improve to the level of an average modeler. I spend another year learning basic rigging, animation and lighting, and i am not even ready to learn programming yet.

I think I know what's the problem here: You are trying to learn how to make your game, but the tutorials are teaching you how to make any game you want.

Its as if you open up a paper and expect to learn from the paper, the route to your destination. However the paper is instead teaching you how to control your leg muscles to lift up your leg, so you can learn how to walk in order to reach the place you want. Simply put, your approach of learning is the problem here.
