Update #15 - Tractor improved, new pet - the Cat! Hi all! Welcome to the next Blocky Farm devlog episode. This week we have two really nice feature for you! Tractor One of our goals in BlockyFarm is to engage and entertain a player at every stage of gameplay. Going this way we decided to add a tractor that is available to use later in the game. A player’s task is to repair this vehicle and as a reward it becomes our next tool useful for collecting crops. It is also possible to drive on the whole map. On the gif you can see updated steering system. The whole GUI is hidden except three buttons necessary to drive the vehicle. Is it wheat or rather mine field? Oo What will happen when we connect Kerbal Space Program, Interstellar and Blocky Farm together? Cat Finally, our dog has a nice companion. Meet the Filemon - the second pet that is available to care of. Cat has special set of behaviours. Just look on it, how sweet our cat is! For example it can: Jump on the roof Catch the mouse And get fun with just a ball of wool. Do you have any ideas for other cat’s behaviours we can implement? Update #16 - Pathfinding, medicines production, camera focus & first animation Hello there everyone. We have some interesting features for you today. Before you start, remember that we are still using placeholders Pathfinding Our pets now are able to find paths among building, decorations and other obstacles. Weve implemented this feature basing on the A* algorithm. Everytime the player builds something, graph with all possible paths is recalculated and saved in the memory. Thanks to that, our pets can find a shortest possible way to the toy or something like that. Generated graph with all possible paths How it works? Pathfinding during play with ball Medicines production As you probably know, animals sometimes become ill in Blocky Farm. To heal them, player needs medicines. So weve added a Herbalist where some healthy syrups can be produced. The important aspect of this feature is that weve created a special area on the map where some buildings stand - useful but not directly related to the farm. (More info in the next devlog) Camera focus Camera focus was fixed. Just that First animation Our animals will be as much interactive as possible. To achieve that, we will need many animations. Looks great! All, except fruits and other small objects. I think if you make all small stuff like an apples and coins by 2D sprites (like at old good time) - it will be better for main farms auditory (womans).
Thanks! You mean, for example, this 3D voxel apple which you get after shaking the tree? Does this apple look like an apple? Please notice that every 3D collectible item is then replaced by a simple and temporary UI icon. Next it has an animation of putting it to the barn/warehouse. And why better for women? Hello everyone after this long Christmas break. We missed you so much, but we are back and as always, we have a bunch of great features! This week weve done some simple polishing tasks. Flattening animals Animals gets temporarily flatten after collision with tractor or any other vehicle. Is it fun enough? We dont want any kind of violence in our game. Animals react to noise User can destroy rock with dynamite, can chop down a tree with a saw - that makes noise. Animals are fragile creatures thus there is chance that they will get panic when they hear a sound. Shaking trees after vehicle collision It is simple and fun feature. Update #18 - Disco Mode, Pet houses and stroking animals Hi all. We are happy to show you these great features. Disco Mode Disco mode is one of Blocky Farms special features that makes this game unique in our opinion. How does it work? Disco Hummer arrives to our farm from time to time and allows the player to start a big party. Huge speakers set appears, music is playing, animal are dancing and everyone is happy. Goods production is hastened by 50%. How do you like this idea? (Remember that we still use placeholder graphics). Video with music (yt) Pet houses We dont want to leave our pets homeless, so weve added some simple buildings-decorations for Cat & Dog separately. There are several dog houses, a big pillow to lay on, some huge cardboard boxes and a cat tree. These are the rest points where pets feel comfortable and more happy. We are going to add tens of different pet houses in the final version of the game. Once again: how do you like this idea? Stroking animals One of our goals is to encourage the player to interact with ingame world as much as possible. One of the ways of interaction is stroking animals. Player can have fun with pets using simple gestures that trigger various behaviours. Our pet can jump, lay on the ground, chase its tail, etc. Did you like this Blocky Farm update?
