Oh. Is it possible that you can implement my suggestions?

  2. 1 Is this a game?
2 What will it be priced at?
3 Do you need a beta tester?
4 Could you get sued? The patent expired 1988, but it's kinda an unlicensed LEGO simulator. How about contacting them, sice they are clearly interested in the appstore (their app). Maybe you could intergrate this with their online creator, so that you could import it, or order directly...

Just my thought, looks quite good.

Naw, it doesn't look like a game. Is Lego building a game? No!

  4. Actually, building stuff and playing with it could be considered as a game

Well you don't really play with it as it is a 3D environment.

  6. Well, once again, my sig explains everything ;)

1: Not really... Actually, right after I first posted on this forum I realized that I'm probably inappropriately posting here being it's not technically "a game". I like to think of it more as a "entertainment" app. So, I guess that counts. Still, if the overlords of TouchArcade wish to kick this thread off I wouldn't put up a fuss about it.

2: Not sure yet. As far as I can tell, there's nothing else similar in the app store to compare it to, so I'll probably just price it in the same range as most other games/entertainment apps (which is, basically, really cheap)

3: Yes! (but not just yet.) I've asked people who wish to participate in being a beta tester to please PM me. I'll contact you once I've got something for you to test.

4: Hopefully not! I did actually send an email over to Lego awhile ago, but they weren't interested, but I'd always be interested in working with them. I did note with some interest that they've signed a deal with Unity 3D today, though. Unity provides iPhone development, so perhaps they figured they'd just make their own? I'll just hope I can finish mine before they can finish theirs, I guess....

I'll try, but at this point I'm just finishing up the basics, and some of that will probably have to wait till an update.

Still, the ability to upload and share models is high on my list of things to do for the app. I hope to have the in for the release version.

Ok, good! That would be very important for me, though not a deal-breaker.

I don't mind at all, seeing that the features I've seen are enough for me ^_^ For those who are getting an iPad, they should get this. The controls and the different camera angles would look great on there :D Keep it up, and good work :)

Hope it won't die off like the Playnyc Inc lego app that was pretty cool when it was announced before App Store even existed.

Yup, BrixBuilder's (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/brixbuilder/id359063519?mt=8) been out for a couple of weeks now. I put up an announcement here:

    http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=53105&highlight=brixbuilder

It's a bit unfortunate that the Playnyc app never seemed to actually go anywhere, although they did get a ton of publicity when they put out that concept video. I would've killed to get even half that amount of publicity!

A note to people who wanted to beta test:
BrixBuilder's 3D whizbang tech was developed using Unity3D (a game engine that I'm sure many here have played a game build off of.) With Apple's update to of the iPhone 4.0 terms of service leaving the viability of Unity as a iPhone development environment in doubt, I unfortunately felt the need to rush a bit to get the app in before April 22nd, a date which some felt these new rules would go into effect. This meant much fewer beta testers, for a shorter period of time.

I can tell you that as a developer, to have spent some considerable time on a project then have to rush it through at the very last step, instead of being able to do some beta testing, etc., really, really sucks. Such is life with Apple though, and regardless, my apologies to those who sent me PM's to be included in the beta and didn't get a chance.

Fortunately, it seems that Apple is not (yet?) enforcing the new TOS, they're waiting till iPhone 4.0 and/or perhaps Unity is in the "safe" zone, but Apple doesn't want to make it explicit. Either way, I've decided to soldier on, and hope for the best. So with that said, i'm in the middle of updating the app to work with the iPad (which will include an updated and iPad-specific UI, some mechanics updates, etc.)

Once that's ready, and assuming that Apple doesn't kill Unity in the meantime, I'll do a proper full beta for that version, and contact those who asked to be included in the beta for the iPhone version.

    Thanks,
    - Corey
