If you're just lurking on this forum, and you don't want to register to see the screenshots, they're also posted on my website... http://photics.com/bot-preview-screenshots

I do like the vBulletin Lightbox mode though. That looks so professional. :)

While I appreciate you posting some pictures I have to say that what I envisioned from reading about the game to seeing actual pictures was a let down.

I will certainly give this game a look when it comes out but I am just not seeing anything special.

That's OK. I feel the same way about Angry Birds. :D

I think the game looks better in motion than just in screenshots. The pictures don't show off the game's sound effects, music and one-finger controls.

Considering the original sketch of the game... http://photics.com/back-to-the-drawing-board ...and the feedback here and on the GameSalad forum, BOT generally meets or exceeds expectations.

Considering that your screenname is BazookaTime, I'm wondering if I should have shown the Rocket Launcher instead of the Laser :)

Does the terrain not actually have any depth? In the "Highway Battle" screenshot, you can visibly see cliffs, but it looks like the bug is just walking flat on it, like the terrain is completely 2d.

The terrain is 2D, as GameSalad is a 2D game engine.

Although, there are two things about that screenshot. 1... I'm working on new enemies, so a land based monster would make more sense there. 2... the Wasp is animated. The wings flap, which gives a better sense of depth and that it's a flying character.

Some scenes have Parallax scrolling to give a better sense of depth.

Looks pretty cool! I was thinking the graphics would be simpler pixel-art, but I'm liking the look. I hope the game turns out to be a quality product and you are rewarded with good sales.

    Hi! :)

I was looking for pixel art, but it was hard to find. Plus, from what I've seen, iOS uses the same amount of RAM for an image regardless of it's color palette.

Although, the first NPC is so small next to TANK that she looks like pixel art.

I'm thinking I'll finish the game first. That way I can focus on making a good promo video.

This looks like a fantastic game! I love the screenshots, and am intrigued by the premise of the game, and the amount of polish you've put into it.

Hope to see this in stores soon!

WOW, just read all these posts.

I will start by saying I agree that most GameSalad games are crap. However to judge a game by the fact that its made with gamesalad before you even get a chance to play it is CRAZY!!!

I use Gamesalad, not because im lazy but because it allows me to work fast and get a lot done in a short amount of time.

My game Zombie Drop for the MAc desktop went to #3 top paid game only beat out by Angry birds and angry birds Rio. And it was made with GAMESALAD.

My new game Tiny Balls and Tiny Balls HD was just launched yesterday and if you go try it out you would be impressed on how GREAT the game is. Also made with GameSalad.

Its not the tool guys, it the people that make the games.

I work hard at my games and so does Photics. So maybe in the future it may be best to try a game before forming an opinion.

    Cheers

    It's done! I love it! :)

I'm waiting for the GameSalad server to send back an Ad-Hoc build of BOT. Once it's done, I'll do some light testing, take some screenshots and then the final build of the app is off to Apple!

I'm so excited. I love this game! :D

I was struggling with how to end the game. I want BOT to run on old devices. Maybe not perfectly, but at least playable. Today, I think I was able to hit the equilibrium between cool and compatible.

Have you seen the Transformers movie? Not the crappy Michael Bay ones... I mean the original cartoon version. Hot Rod and Kup are surrounded by the sharkticons. The heroes are surrounded by these monsters, and they're trying to stay alive. I remembered that battle while testing the final area of BOT — the survival stage.

I added a second Leaderboard to BOT. The goal is to last as long as possible, while the robo wasps attack TANK. I picked the machine gun — level 4 — and it was exciting. The enemies approach from a 360° range. The heavy clouds obscure view. Night vision is being used to see clearly. The critters attack, they explode, more replace them. I think it's a good end-game... like in old kung-fu flicks, where the hero is surrounded and then killed. Except, in this game, the goal is to get back to the save point and post the score on Game Center.

I adjusted the difficulty. The game is somewhat easier now. I did this to make Stealth more useful. Additionally, I think there's a nice balance. The end-game is challenging, so there's no need to crush the beginners. The quests also help to get the gold flowing.

One of the final touches was to add a link to http://photics.com. I think I can post useful information about the game on my website. There is one easter-egg in the game. I'm also planning to include a cheat-code on the Mac Desktop version.

I'm so excited! I made it... but this is only the beginning. The next step is marketing. It's going to be a busy week for me!

Hey wait wtf 15 gold to save progress? I'm not sure how easy/hard it is to earn in game currency but this feature alone is enough to raise some doubts. Oh and worst feature ever.

Not trying to flame the game for any reason because I'm still excited for the release.

Wait what???!!! Where is that said? You're right, if I have to use game money to save, I just might end up passing on this... I play in short bursts... Generally playing for 10 minutes, then saving n exiting... For a 6ish hour game, that's like 36 saves = 540 gold... Just to save my progress??? Very off-putting...

It's an RPG. It wouldn't be complete without something that makes you angry. :D

    • EverQuest had corpse runs
    • World of Warcraft has armor repair
    • Guild Wars has Rurik
    • Gauntlet has the thief
    • Zelda has the shield eating like-likes and the hand that drags you to the beginning of the dungeon.

The logic behind the system is that there should be some sort of expense and risk to exploring. It's not hard to get 15 gold. That's like 2-3 kills. Yet, it's enough to get people thinking... do I risk it or do I keep hunting? That adds some danger and excitement to the exploring. Knowing that if you wander too far from the base, you could easily lose your progress.

Sure, I could have made it a "Carebear" RPG, but there are already so many casual games on the iTunes App Store. One of the things I like about this game is that the combat is exciting — at least I think so. I like how I can get lost, even though I made the game. Wandering back home, getting disoriented, worried if I have enough health to make it. Stuff like that doesn't happen if there's no risk of loss.

If you're using an iPhone 4, you could just leave the app running in the background. That increases risk though. That makes the player think... greed vs risk. It's easy to save, it's roughly 3-4 good kills worth of gold, but that greed could make players do stupid things — and that's where the excitement can happen.

Dev, you're giving irrelevant examples and your 'logic' is questionable.
The examples that you showed are unrelated to your 'pay per save' mechanic. Corpse runs give player negative incentive from dying, not saving their game. Armor/weapon repairs take currency off the market, a typical inflation control method in MMORPG games. Again, totally different in nature to your mechanic.

Anyway, point is 'pay per save' mechanic provides a negative to well, play. Who in the world would pay to have their progress saved? All gamers take it for the granted these days. It's not a service like teleport to fast travel between places (which I'll gladly pay for), saving a game is a compulsory feature that every game have a right to access without charge.

Then again, if it's not hard to gain enough money to save your game, then why bother charging for it? It sure defeats the 'risk' factor that you designed it to have. Plus, I'm pretty sure anyone can use half a brain to work out that they need to save before a long/far adventure so at most no one will lose any progress more than that of the current trip.

Bottom line: bad mechanic, irrelevant examples, moot supporting logic.
