YES, IT'S APPROVED! Tomorrow it hits the app store. It's set as a tier-1 app. That's 99¢ in the United States. This is exciting. I worked really hard on this app. Now, launch day is finally here. Thanks!
I'm really excited! I've been following your BOT log since the beginning... (although I don't think I ever posted in it haha)
Thanks! I can't release it now, or it will screw up the new releases listing. It might already be available in Australia though. I think it's tomorrow over there. The size of the app is about 150 MB.
I'm getting some feedback about the controls. One of the key things to understand is that it's not a tapping game. Touch directly behind TANK to shoot... AND THEN hold that touch to keep shooting and aim.
what are your thoughts on an ipad version? universal? seperate? neither? want to buy, but need to know
For a buck, it's totally worth the buy... It's almost like a dual stick shooter without controls and a nice RPG type upgrade system... =oD
Shouldn't we be moving this conversation to the release thread..? I'll post this in both places, just in case. My first impressions of the game are good. This will be a take-your-time-and-play-it game, not a twitch action shooter. The exploration aspect has been fun so far. The controls take a little bit of getting used to (in fact I'm still trying to figure out what works best) what I am doing right now is either taping on a spot, or holding a finger down in the direction I want to go if I'm traveling. I'm not having much trouble shooting, but what I do have trouble with is aiming the sword. I wish I had video footage of my gameplay so far, I've had some nifty spots where I moonwalk into a bug and get slaughtered and some other interesting maneuvers. Since it's tap to walk and also tap (behind) to shoot, I was at first trying to shoot/aim then use the sword, but the gun hand shoots way off on the right side, and I'm not sure if it's my brain playing tricks on me, but the sword seems to extend slightly outwards on the left. The combination of this means you have to pivot to move from your firing position to a good sword striking position, or just not shoot and wait to use the sword. Most of the time I just try to walk to the right of wherever I think the bug is moving to and then use the sword. A little Prince of Persia-ish in that I have to think two steps ahead because BOT is a little slow to move (and doesn't shoot/strike from his stomach!) The game touts no large amounts of text to read, but I felt way lost to begin with, why are these people telling me about soccer? How do I heal? What are all these items anyway? Graphics are nice on the eyes, sound effects are good - I especially like the glitchy sounds in the equip screen, how they play right/left based on the side of the screen they're on. Music is good - though it could fade out a bit nicer as you transit off a screen. I would love to have a little bit of sound for BOT as he walks (bonus points if there's different sounds for different terrain!) Lots of little bits of loading, but they're not too bad. BOT doesn't follow paths so well - don't expect any traversal, you'll need to tap short distances (or hold and drag like you're playing 1000 Find 'em All!) or sometimes he'll just keep pacing against a ravine (at least I'm assuming they're ravines - first areas off the starting area) or walk off on an odd tangent (try the first area to the left, walk up around the bend, now try tapping on the other side of the bend, he'll walk towards and then veer off at an angle...) Speaking of ravines - I could be wrong, but it seems you totally get ripped with the coins the flying critters drop falling into the ravines most of the time. Overall a good game so far, easily worth the buck, and feels quite polished for a GameSalad title. My impressions of Cydonia + Heavy Mach 2 were fairly on - less frantic than Cydonia, and I'm sure less grinding to get those special drops than HM2.
