Exactly, I've been on the receiving end more often than not. The fact that I got Quest free makes me feel a bit better. And technically I still have what I paid for. Like you said with QuBit, it was handled poorly and feelings were hurt and in this small community, loyalty means alot. I'm done.

I understand how you feel and I respect your opinion but unfortunately I feel differently. Thanks for sharing your opinion though. Always good to see someone else's opinion.
Geeze, harsh words. First of all, we never promised this game wouldn't go free -- we never scammed anyone into thinking that an early purchase would be the best value in the lifespan of the game. An opportunity came up unexpectedly far in advance of plans we initially had (in fact we didn't have plans to go free at all until yesterday), so we took it. The fact of the matter is, BHQ didn't do as expected -- we only have a few games out right now and quite frankly cannot afford to just sit here and do nothing while we go out of business. Price cuts are just a norm in the app store... because whatever the case may be, they work. We don't want to slash our games and make them free, trust me. We spent months making them... but in the end this is a business, and we need to do what we have to do. If you want to wait for all our future games to go free, so be it. Some will go free, others won't. Bug Heroes Deluxe won't ever go free, you can quote me on that (and it also is the same price as the current BH + all IAPs, so its not a "money grubbing" scheme). Once our library grows, we won't have to use price slashing as often. In the end, as with anything you purchase, its up to you to decide if you feel the product is worth what the asking price is at that time. If I buy a head of lettuce at the grocery store and its on sale the next week, I'm not going to get pissed at them for slashing the price on lettuce.
O.K thats it I'm not buying anymore games. Screw this ***. This is the last straw. I'll just wait for every game to go free from now on.
You have been quoted Sir. I hope that an unexpected opportunity doesn't come up and change your plans.

Why would that be fair? That would not be at all fair to us. The problem is, what you think is fair is not... its just what you want. Fairness is a 2 way street. Including months work of extra content for free to those early adopters who bought the game was never in the our game plan -- I'm sorry you want that content for free and feel jipped bc it wasn't. But whether Bug Heroes ever went free or not wouldn't have changed that the new content was going to be IAPs. You just assume because we went free that we greedily converted new content into IAPs. No, that content was always intended to be IAPs, whether you first bought the game or not, whether it stayed paid or went free. Anyway, this is a BHQ thread, and I would prefer conversation of our other games stick to the main threads

awp, I don't think you're being consistent: the fact that the paid app is merely a shortcut to the free game with all IAP included would negate most of your complaint. And they preserved the original app so those who already purchased it and/or IAP would be unaffected. The only way this would follow as penalty is if the latter version offered some content that the original does not. Or if they added banners to the original, or something along those lines that treats owners of the first version as secondary. I have never been bothered if apps go free after I buy it. The only thing that has ever made me feel cheated to date are paid apps that institute ads. Look at Epic War TD if you want an example in how to not manage an iOS game. Bug Heroes is a really good game (for yet another iOS twin stick shooter), and I think most people want to see you succeed. Perhaps some are disappointed because from where we're sitting, making an app free so soon seems like giving up. I regret that it hasn't sold in greater supply. Personally, I have not picked it up as I wasn't sure what to expect. The fact that it adds some sort of RPG element didn't tell me much, and if it's Bug Heroes with a ton of dialogue attached, I don't think I would enjoy it.
More and more devs are doing things like this... It is a little upsetting at first, but really, I'd much rather have developers go free or freemium and still be able to make enough money with IAPs and after free sales from moving up in the charts while free, so that they can still work on the game, give us updates, and keep making games. I can't tell you how many games I've bought that are still in version 1.0 or 1.1, have had devs promise an update, and just completely forgotten about them after they didn't sell as expected. A lot of really good games, from first time devs. A lot of them just give up, never to be heard from again. If they can keep making games, or supporting games, by going free for a day, or completely freemium, I'd really prefer that to never hearing from them again... Anyway, thank you for making Quest free for a day, I hope it gets more attention, and sells better after this...

The paid version with IAP DOESN'T AFFECT the first version. It doesn't save them money, it doesn't offer them anything that you won't get with the original. Now you're just persisting to talk out of your ass. If person A bought Bug Heroes when it was a strictly paid app, the only thing that has been lost is that initial payment of $1-$2. You may feel free to look at this any way you want: early adoption surcharge; the nature of the app store; the value of having played the game that much longer than those who got on board later. Person B downloaded Bug Heroes after it went free, saving themself the $1-$2. After that, both sides are equal. This happens literally every day, all over the app store. Some of us buy apps, and others wait for them to go free. There is nothing distinct about the way Bug Heroes managed this. Person C comes along and buys the deluxe version at $5, they now have the already free game with all the IAP included. Total retail value: $5. If person B wants IAP, they retain the option of buying it individually. If they buy all of it, they have spent a total of $5. Same as person C. If person A buys all the IAP, they have spent a total of $6-$7. Total loss is STILL THE SAME $1-$2 owed from the original price drop. Again, this is nothing special. So what more will it take to drive it into your head that nobody has been ripped off or disrespected?

Lawlawlawl It's $2. Good post, dib. Foursaken, keep it up. You guys haven't ripped anyone off (except for one confused person). I bought Bug Heroes, all of the IAP and I have no complaints. You deserve to be paid for all of your work you put into the game. Thanks for the freebie.
It's fair because it IS fair. No matter what you paid for the original + IAP, it has nothing whatsoever to do with fair when it comes to later price changes and products. You are confusing the notion of fair with the notion of a price guarantee - they are not the same. Devs can't win with people who think a purchase at time X has anything to do with their future pricing. How can you possibly win with people who don't seem to understand how transactions work? What you buy a game or any other product is the price at the time you bought it, that's it. It is not a statement about what the price was a month before, or what the price will be a month later. I have to hope that you all are just very young or something similar because I can't live with worrying about all the exploding heads when you realize your grocery store, your restaurant, your bar, your bookstore, really, literally everyone you deal with will all routinely alter their prices.
And that's where you're wrong: I am vehemently anti-IAP. Do you want me to cite specific posts on this site alone where I have criticized developers over it? That's why I said if you wanted an example of truly being screwed, go take a look at Epic War TD: they sold the app for $3, and frequently alternate between this and free. Take a look at the activity and see for yourself. So they devalued the product and gave most copies away for free over all these months. Recently they attached banners and popups in the game, and added IAP that we would have to buy to get rid of them. So if we paid for the game, we're expected to pay again because they suddenly blindsided us with ads. At the same time, they came out with a second pro version that lacks the banners and has more levels. When they debuted this version, they were even still charging for the first one as another of their frequent+random price hikes. Then they dropped the price of the pro version the following day, as well as setting the original to free. And that's on top of a long streak of patching the game to crash, removing gameplay elements, etc. So when the original Bug Heroes that you bought has less content than the deluxe, along with ads despite the fact that you were one of the first supporters, then please come back here and tell us that they're assholes. The problem with your loyalty point is that they have to reconcile this with treating everybody fairly: let's say they decide to give only person A a new bonus feature. What about person B who got the game for free, but also bought all the IAP and has therefore put forward more money than person A who just has the basic game at .99? And person C who bought the deluxe version with the understanding that it contains _all_ the content, which it no longer does? Both of them have equal cause to come here and complain that they're being disrepected despite their support. Foursaken's model is actually a very fair one if you look at it from all angles: as I demonstrated the only possible money anybody has expended over another is if you bought it within those first three months--which is wholly acceptable+common across the app store. They didn't even shuffle back and forth between free and $3, which shows a consideration that they're aware of how people like yourself would feel if they had.
THIS IS A THREAD ABOUT BUG HEROES QUEST (not to be confused with Bug Heroes) GOING FREE FOR A DAY. ANYTHING ELSE IS OFF TOPIC.
