Hi guys! Over the past few months I have given over 500 promo codes out in these forums because you guys are simply the best iPhone/iPod Touch community that exists. So now is the time that I have come here to ask for your help. My company, More Blu Sky has become an official sponsor of the 2009 Boobie-thon. You can follow them on twitter also Our new apps couldn't have been any more timely. They are 25¢ Peep Show - Hot Girls and 25¢ Peep Show - Sexy Guys What we are doing is donating 25¢ for each app sold, of those listed above, through the 7th of October. I urge you all to join in and let everyone know that the iPhone/iPod Touch community cares...and that we want to Kill The Cancer! Thank you, to everyone in advance!
People may or may not agree with the whole "sexy people app" moment. But this isn't about showing pictures...this is about trying to do something good. My family has been ripped apart by cancer, as have tons of people around the world. It's about seeing an opportunity try and help. Honestly...We had the idea for these apps a long time ago but didn't want to move forward on them. Finally we decided to put a little bit of time aside and work on it. I always wondered what we were going to use them for since they very well can't get us more clients for our company...turns out there was a reason we made them...and it was for this. They are actually well made and not thrown together in an attempt to make a quick bucks. There is dynamic lighting and shadows. The Neon light blinks and buzzes. An array of sound effects, including...if you drop a coin in the floor...it actually sounds like a coin hitting the floor in real life due to the downward direction of the speaker and the sound bouncing off the floor. So time was taken on them. Some might like them...others will not...but I think we all can agree that it's a good cause.
My man boobies are up on the Boobiethon website, as are my wife's lady boobies. All for a good cause!
OP, are you the maker of an app that donates to psotrate cancer too that someone made a thread about? On a related note, Breast cancer donations for stuff you find on teh interwebs, how did they ever think of that?
To be perfectly frank, as much as cancer research always needs money to continue studies, and raising money for it is a noble cause, I don't think this is the sort of thing cancer research would want to be associated with. There's a reason only the shadier sites on the interwebs will accept banners for pr0n sites; reputable ones don't want to be associated with it.
The Boobie-thon offers two. I was thinking of going with Susan G. Koman for the Cure. Over the past few weeks I have been making an effort to buy only Lean Cousins that have the donation to Susan G. Korman for the Cure, so I figured I would keep with that trend and, through the Boobie-ton donate to that fund. And Yes...I buy at least one Lean Cuisine a day for lunch. Cheapest lunch you can get and it's not half as bad for you as most of the stuff I could be buying at a fast food joint.
How did you clear this charity promotion through Apple? Or did you? They have a very specific stance on charities and donations... You can mention it on your own website, or even here, but not in the app store. Why? Because there's no way for them to verify that the money you promise is actually going to that cause unless THEY pay it into the charity account. There are a *lot* of shady people out there who would lie about things like this just to make some sales, so Apple just steers clear of the potential mess by forbidding it. I'd remove the text and change the photos in iTunes quick before Apple notices and pulls the plug on your apps...
No, that's not me. Though we are thinking about an app that would be sold exclusively to benefit colon cancer, which is the cancer that my father is currently living with.
We are one of three Official Sponsors Listed as Official Sponsors on the site, with our donation listed as a blog post. I swore that it was more a contest thing with Apple. Though...you might be right. Maybe I should take that down? Anyone else have thoughts? It's only for two and a half days.
I doubt you'll have a problem in just a couple of days. It seems to take the people responsible for checking such things that long just to get out of bed in the morning. Plus, if you are an official sponsor I think that would lend some credibility. I don't know what it does from Apple's legal standpoint, if anything, but even if it isn't totally kosher by them, the length of time this issue would be relevant for would probably fly under their radar anyway.
Ugh please specify what each link is to in your sig, I clicked 25c peep show guys because I thought it meant "for guys". I was mislead.
If for any reason the apps came down...I would just donate out of my pocket...though I think you're right. There shouldn't be a problem.
Sorry to hear about your father, but this really doesn't seem like the right way to get people to donate money for a cure to breast cancer. Think about it, some people will now associate breast cancer research with pr0nz, and i don't think that's what the researchers had in mind. Edit: Plus Apple might have legal issues with this, as many have pointed out.
