I think those might be the only ones that are (iPhone) retina too. The universal ones look much better on iPad than the others running in 2x mode. Most of the games start out zoomed in a bit though, if you're playing on iPad I'd suggest the first thing you do should be zoom out fully to take advantage of the larger screen, and for some of the games it'll look less blurry zoomed out.
Apps in 2x mode look terrible on iPad 1 & 2, they look so horrible games are imo unplayable due to ugliness. No idea about the newer iPads though - they might use the iPhone retina graphics when running stuff in 2x mode, the other iPads don't for some strange reason, they instead use the non-retina stuff.
I think the ugliness is compounded by the higher PPI of the mini's screen. For those who don't know, the ipad mini has a sharper screen (more pixels per inch, PPI) than a standard size non-retina ipad.
Intriguing. So a retina iPad Mini's display would actually outperform Apple's flagship retina iPad's?
No, the pixel density is higher on the ipad 3 and 4. The Mini is sharper than the 1 and 2. Though the word is the mini will be updated with "retina"... Which is a useless word, much like HD has become. All retina means is "sharper", it doesn't refer to any specific resolution or pixel density, and is even decieving on some larger Macbook Pro w/Retina Display models, since they actually pixel double a lot of stuff.
He said a "retina" iPad mini, which hypothetically, if given the same degree of retinization, would be sharper.
Depends on the resolution chosen. It could be sharper, less sharp... Won't know until the details are released. As I said, retina is a marketing term, not a standard. An iphone 4 and an ipad 4 are both retina, but (I believe) have different pixel densities. Though it should look very sharp, smaller screens also give the illusion of having a higher resolution.
