Didn't the first iPhone cost $400, then dropped to $200 in a few months? If what I heard is true, I'd wait a couple months before getting one.
Late to the thread, but I think you really should buy one... ..for me! That's right! If you're worried that the first generation is crap, that you won't get enough use out of it to justify the cost - fear not, I've got that covered! If you'd like, I can even send email/pictures of yourmy iPad and all the wonderful games I'll be playing on it. And I'll be beta testing here on TA and helping the indie devs make better games, so it's really for the good of the community that you hurry and buy one now! And Big Albie says that you should get the 64 GB model, nudge, nudge, wink, wink!
oh, i d k...maybe apple is trying to say it is its own thingy, and therefore free updates? But, then wouldnt it require its own OS?
HP also released some news about its upcoming Slate tablet. http://scitech.blogs.cnn.com/2010/04/05/hps-ipad-competitor-will-have-a-video-camera/?hpt=Sbin While I don't know what the OS will be, the fact that it has Flash and a USB drive are intriguing to say the least. Btw, sorry about the double post.
tablets are the future of computing but that doesn't mean you should adopt now. Maybe in 5-10 years they will be mainstream and definitely more affordable. Like the HP slate there's already more versatile tablets coming out and it's even rumored on Techcrunch that apple is planning a more expensive full MAC OS tablet (the real Macbook/laptop alternative?) in the future.
Well I don't want a ridiculously high tech machine, 'cause my price limit will only be $700 max (I want a Macbook Pro, but that's A LOT more expensive). So if the HP Slate is under $700, that's my machine. If not... iPad will already have dropped about $300 so that's fine too
When/if Tablet PCs become mainstream in the long run, the current iPad OS won't cut it anymore compared to what the others will offer. Apple needs to plan ahead for something more flexible than what the iPad currently offers.
I honestly don't know what it would take for me to get a tablet, considering I always have my MBP with me. I guess like others say, it'd have to be nearing the versatility of an actual laptop, where the main selling point is the form-factor and the multi-touch interface. Considering I love messing around with graphics, it'd have to have several good art and animating suites, something along the lines of garageband, photo editing, microphone, camera, and stylus support. Basically, one big art pad. Don't see that coming for a while, though.
By the videos I'm seeing of the HP Slate (a.k.a. HP promotions), the Slate will have two cameras, Flash (thank you sweet jesus!), USB, SD cards, full internet (which means you can use photoshop.com) and Windows 7, for just under $600... Now I just have to wait until summer and not spend a dime... Gah!
