So, I'm headed to Milwaukee this week, what are some places that I need to eat at? What are some items that I need to be sure to pick up? One thing I always get is a coffee cake muffin from Dunkin' Donuts. That is a quality baked good.
McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King, Sonic? I think he meant like restaurant-wise or stuff he can't get in Canada
Wisconsin is known for cheese and dairy products. One of the more interesting things one needs to try (a when in Wisconsin do as the Wisconsinians do type of thing) is have cheese curds. Don't ask, just eat - you will be surprised how good they are.
welcome to america where we take pride in eating the unhealthily stuff........just eat the stuff that makes you fat..thats the good stuff
We have squeaky cheese curds here, too. They're not common in the sense that grocery stores typically carry them, but a good deli will usually carry them.
Good eats in Milwaukee Hi, FilthyCanadian I'm a canadian expatriate living here in Milwaukee, teaching in the public school system. Been here for 25 years, and tried a lot of restaurants in that time. What kind of food are you looking for ? Casual or fine dining ? Something that will scream Milwaukee, or more general ? Where in the city will you be staying; that could factor into it too ! Let me know what kind of stuff you're looking for, and I'll be happy to make some suggestions.
hey filthycanadian I'm in canada right now niagra falls to be exact it is surprisingly the same restaurant wise I was confused by the washrooms but it all turned out all right really just eat anything you wouldn't find in canada... That also looks appetizing.
I guess it was close, but Chicago isn't too far and that seems much more appealing. I've never been to Milwaukee but love Chicago.
I don't understand the canadian obsession with doughnuts. Canada consumes 3x the capita of doughnuts per person than does the US. Can you elaborate on that, FC?
Two words: Tim Horton's. It's a national institution, despite having pretty mediocre donuts. The coffee is good, though hardly gourmet -- but it's a good cuppa joe. The baked goods are average. (I much prefer Krispy Kreme, even if their donuts are artery bombs.) But everyone goes there for the coffee and the iced capp -- a lot; it's hard to find a Tim Horton's store that isn't packed during the day. Donuts I suppose naturally follow the ritual of getting some coffee.
i go to Milwaukee all the time because i have family there. surprisingly i havent really eaten at many of the local restaurants because i usually just eat with my family at home. BUT if you have the chance to get to have some bratwurst, make sure you try to have Klements brat. They are so good. Also if youre of age or know how to get some beer, get some leinenkugel beer. any variety is pretty good but try the summer ale i think its called. and a MUST have is a place called KOPPS it is a local burger and frozen custard place. you have to go there just look it up on the internet to find where they are. I think there are two locations in Milwaukee. get a burger with grilled onions and then they always have an awesome flavor of the day for the custard. Oh and if youre looking for fast food, a place called Culver's is all around wisconsin. they have good food
Kopp's is good, but for real good custard, you have to go to Leon's, on 27th street just south of Oklahoma Avenue. It's the model for Arnold's drive-in on the old "Happy Days" show, and it's the one place Bill Clinton hits every time he's in town. Their Butter Pecan is out of this world, but I have a fondness for their Chocolate. Their Spanish Burgers are a Milwaukee treasure.
Ugh, I went to Culver's once to test it out and didn't like it. Their menu seemed waaaay too big with nothing great on it. The custard was good though.
We have Dunkin' over here, too. Used to go there with some buddies of mine years ago, mainly because it was close by, but their stuff was pretty average too. It's gotta be a regional (or in the case of Tim's here, national) thing that's less to do with their food and drinks and more to do with the culture.
I'm trying to visit every park in the major leagues. This year, I am headed to see a Brewers game. I have heard of a place called the Safe House. Has anyone been there?
