Wow, thanks for all the recent positive feedback from everyone. I'm so glad more and more people are discovering Chain Link. Question for everyone, how did you find out about the game? Did you find out from reading this thread or did you see it in the New and Noteworthy section in iTunes? FlyinJ, yes, the iPad version uses new leaderboards that aren't linked to the iPhone version so you don't have to compete against people who have a space advantage.
Yeah, people are getting better and better at Chain Link every day and their scores keep climbing. ExileClub and SammySin keep exchanging spots for Rank 1 for most leaderboards. It is great seeing people over taking my high scores that I held onto for so long during beta testing
I didn't even notice the game in iTunes. I saw one of my friends playing it on Open Feint and thought why not. Glad I picked this one up!
Nope, not a bug fix. I just had two minor things I wanted to change. They are: - The background used for the iPod music notify was made more transparent so you can still see shapes spawning in - The 2x, 3x, 4x shapes were made a little smaller so later Stages are easier to play
The final image is not a power-up but a hazard. It adds an avoid element to the game and they only show up in Stage 7+ on Expert and Hardcore levels. When you hit a hazard, the pieces of your chain will disappear and you'll end up with a single shape. It does not count as a collision so it won't end the game. Hazards will disappear after 10 seconds on their own if you avoid them. Think of them as a reverse power-up (a Bizarro power-up). You'll earn the "Non-Mutual Assured Destruction" achievement if you can avoid all hazards on Expert/Hardcore by Stage 20.
*watches trailer* *instant buy* ----------- edit: loving the game so far. just want to suggest lowering the graphics. (ive already set the graphics lower) perhaps the background makes it slow? and im not really into the "fragment" effect when you die... 4/5
What kind of slowness are you seeing? Does it happen at certain spots? My testers on 1st gen iPhones have reported smooth gameplay and it never dips below 55 fps on a 3GS. The only thing I can think of is to try a reboot of your device to see if that helps. If you're using an iPad then the 1.5 version will improve performance. The 1.5 version is in review right now.
Ah great news, thanks. You really pulled off some super tight design in this game. The overall gameplay is stellar, but the "mission" system you implemented to gain powerups coupled with their persistence through future rounds pushes it over the edge. Can't stop playing.
No kidding! I'm glad this thread kept popping up, because I finally decided to check it out. After watching the video, I bought the game, and it is hard to stop playing it. Great game! I must force myself to go to bed now.
Thanks mikeg123, I know I'm doing my job as a game developer if people are playing the game late into the night instead of sleeping
Game Impressions Still loving this game but am not sure I fully understand the Ghost Chain. I initially thought it meant I could pass through other pieces on the board but that is clearly not the case. Is the idea that being able to pass through my own chain links I could make my huge current chain into a small compact ball since all of the links are free to overlap each other? Being a cheap mo-fo I'm spending an inordinate amount of time in Arcade Easy just to unlock all of the power-ups in as a quick and efficient manner as possible. Therefore I like that even though I can use Easy to unlock everything, if I want to see all of the power-ups I just unlocked I'm going to HAVE TO move up to Expert and beyond!
Yes to the second part. The ghost chain can only overlap with itself, thus taking up less room on the screen. But it can still collide with other shapes. The game would be unbalanced if it worked the other way.
I agree that the first interpretation would be a little too over-the-top, I just wasn't clear initially on the point since colliding with links of one's own chain isn't normally hazardous. It then hit me how this could be used to create a huge chain in a tight space!
The 1.5 update for the iPad version, Chain Link HD, is still in review after four days. Hopefully this will be approved on Monday. It uses the new OpenFeint layout designed for the iPad and contains a performance improvement, as well as the features that came in with the 1.5 update of Chain Link Pro.
Can't wait for the iPad update! I'm so addicted to the iPhone version. Hard to play on the iPad while laying in bed though... lol
My brother in law went and bought this earlier after my girlfriend showed him it on her phone and he is a complete non gamer! ;D P.S - I just owned expert on arcade mode, ranked number 1 by double the previous number 1 score.
Your scores are insane! I have no idea how you do it. I was happy to break 1 million in static mode (normal).
You also got quite an impressive score on normal static too! The game is doing very well in the United Kingdom, it is rank 19 in Puzzle games and in the top 120 overall.
Go figure, I just got the #1 score on expert arcade! I know that won't last. Given sammysin's scores - I'm sure he'll blow my score out if he water.
