Here's an article from ITnews highlighting the differences between the iTunes App Store, Microsoft Marketplace, Blackberry App World and Google Market http://www.itnews.com.au/News/NewsStory.aspx?story=100154 There's three things that struck me: 1) It says Apple Developer Program only costs one-off US$99. But isn't it an annual renewal of US$99 in order to have your apps placed onto the App Store? What happens if you don't renew? Do your apps just evaporate? 2) Microsoft has the cheek to charge US$99 PER APP SUBMITTED! Furthermore, EACH UPDATE counts as a new app too!!!! Guess you won't be seeing any bugfixes for those apps! 3) RIM seems to want rotten tomatoes splatted on their face too: US$200 for ten application submissions and app updates count as separate submissions! As weird as the App Store can get with delayed approvals, poor visibility of the apps within iTunes and lack of user search filters, it sure seems to be the most promising and fertile ground for developers.
With marketing like that it looks like the only two stores that will make it will be Apple and Google.
Wowww. I mean really. Only the big money developers will go into the other App Stores. The individual developer can't express their creativity anymore due to that price whatever. Dumbbbb...Apple's App Store is the best so if any dev is reading this, develop for the iPhone!
