Picked this up and I'm not sorry I did, but I find the controls awkward to point that it's frustrating. I have to hold my wrists at an uncomfortable angle and the touch recognition is always sketchy for side/tip of the finger pinch motions. Am I wrong to be using thumb/forefinger? Maybe I should be using forefinger/middle finger scissor style?
I have to agree. I bought because everyone kept saying how it's a must-have for the iPad, but honestly, after I played it for like 5 minutes, I was done with it. The controls are awkward for me, and it's not that exciting of a game. I don't know. Just not my cup of tea.
Play it by putting the ipad down on a flat surface, or by propping it on your knees while lying down in bed. I agree that it is awkward and uncomfortable playing any other way for the most part. I do recommend it also playing with someone else - each person controlling one set of pincers.
I have an awkward time of it with my iPad Mini.. not sure if it's the size or just my bad manual dexterity (which is admittedly pretty bad). I'm told that it gets easier with time, though, so I'll give it some more tries. I also bought this game for $5. That said, even though I didn't play it as much as I thought - though it's certainly staying on my device - the whole excitement of grabbing it on "opening night" (whatever the equivalent is for games), laughing at the TA Plays of this (I still grin just remembering) makes it totally worth it for me. If I'd known the price would be dipping significantly, I may have just wishlisted it and waited, but I really don't feel "cheated" or "ripped off". So for those on the fence, try it! Now it's inexpensive enough to be worth trying no matter what. C'mon, it's a crab IN SPACE.
Yeah, the other brothers was nice, they had an early adopter sale of 99 cents! Also, it got icade joystick support on the last update! About Crabitron, It is kinda cool, different concept, and different control system, kinda like how alpha zero had a new style with two hand controls. This game, you control each claw with two fingers, so you need 4 fingers to play, if you look at the attached picture, you will see the 4 zones you put your fingers on. The one negative is, four fingers on an ipad is kind of draining, and also you have to either have it on a tripod or table to play. On the plus side, loooks like a great two player game with each person controlling each claw. Would I buy this again? Yes, but as some have said, the controls are tiring, so it is hard to play for long periods. Definitely worth 99 cents, but I really feel sorry for the people who bought it at launch for $5. Recommended.
I for one think it's worth a fiver just for the production value, and a pretty novel concept. Yeah, it's not something you play all the time, but a nifty game to fire up with a girlfriend or buddy, whoever. Don't sleep on the creativity here for a mere dollar y'all!
I didn't buy this because I figured it was not my kind of game. I'm not really into endless games where you buy stuff with virtual currency (also, I worried it might not work on my iPad 1). It did look nice though, so I figured I'd give it a try at the current price. And it's great! I still don't like the upgrade-stuff-thing, but it's just so much fun. You're a giant crab in space! And it feels like it too. The controls are perfect. Yeah, it's not easy to grab stuff, but that's the point! It's such an interesting feeling, you are this giant mega-powerful crab that can crush entire spaceships in its claws, but still, it's not easy, and you have enemies too. Game works fine on my iPad 1. It does crash very occasionally. The first time I played it it crashed during the tutorial (which was irritating because when I played again I couldn't see the tutorial text anymore). I now run a memory cleaner program before I start the game, and I don't have in-game crashes anymore, but it does crash in the shop sometimes. The gameplay really stutters until Game Center loads, but after that it's totally fine. I now feel guilty for getting this at the current price, but also don't want to buy the coin doubler because I think that many people buying the coin doubler or tripler will tell the devs that freemium will be the way to go.
It's fun, and I anticipate occasional two player games with it for quite awhile; but I'm glad I waited for the drop to a buck.
I paid $5 and I don't regret. In fact, I purchased the coin trippler. I'm glad to support them. Unfortunately, they learned that premium games don't work on App Store and probably will try something freemium next time. And everybody will complain about the IAPs. It's a fun game that can be even better with the new features. Very polished, very nice for a release version.
Part of the problem with this release was that it looks like a paidmium game with the count multipliers and what not. I would have purchased it at release if it had been a straight up premium game.
Yeah. Having coin doublers and/or in-game currency as IAPs is a sure way to make me not spend money on a game.
I don't mind IAPs since they don't block my progress and the IAPs in Crabitron don't get in my way at all.
I told them the same when it was released in the game's thread. Their stats on CrabStarter show that only 5% of the players bought the doubler/tripler.. it's safe to say that there's WAY more than 5% of the prospective buyers who passed when they saw doubler/tripler IAPs in a $5 game without a solid track record "a la Foursaken". I can vouch that it was unnecessary from what I saw when playing it but prospective buyers can't care less. Now who will pay the full price for their future games when they have an history of dropping their game price from $5 to $1 within 3 weeks of launch? Still they got good sales from their apple feature, media coverage and from the price drop strategy. Could have been worse.
It might if they offered another control method. I'm not sure why they didn't do that even for the iPad version. Something like single finger on either side moves the claws, second finger tap/tap&hold closes the claws.
Do you eat cars? Or crush them and eat humans? Hello, I'm wondering if we are supposed to eat the cars, or crush the cars in midair and then need to eat just the humans? Any information much appreciated! Thanks
