Mass Effect was definitely one of our influences. In our game, you'll be recruiting wingmen for your cause. There is also something of a romance mini-game that we'll probably add as a free update after launch. Can't say too much more about it though.
Ok, this game "looks" more than great! I am waiting for such a game a long time. I hope, that you think about porting it to PC/MAC as some kind of MMOG, after you get your things running on the IOS platform. Maybe make it Multi-platform available. I know, setting up an MMOG isn't a piece of cake, eg you need servers @ different global locations to keep the ping at a playable level, but I think your game has the potential to be sucessful. Btw I have played EVE for some time. It is a good game, but for me, the combat was somehow disappointing and the cost per month was too high, so I quit playing it. Alas, there aren't (much) alternatives what goes for the depth of gameplay and player base. Ok, hope to see you on kickstarter.
Thanks for your feedback. We're hoping the game can live up to your expectations! We're using Unity3D and have been testing with iOS, Android, PC, Mac, and web all along, so we should be able to launch with most platforms shortly after iOS. In fact, we've had to optimize it for mobile, so it was really cool seeing the game run decently on an old Windows XP laptop that had a crappy graphics card. Due to the work we put into cinematic camera modes, I gotta admit it's quite mesmerizing watching ships flying and orbiting on a big screen. Almost tranquil. The lead developer and I come from an MMO background since we ran and developed CopperDikumud way back in college. There are some balance issues with regard to large-scale EVE-like combat that I'd like to fix. I have some ideas to prevent "blob" tactics which seems to be what that game has devolved into. But I'm getting way ahead of myself here since this is only a single-player game at the moment.
That sounds promising! Especially, that you both have MMOG experience^^ But we will see, what the future brings que sera... Count me in for beta on IOS and Windows. When I have the time, I am willing to help! PS: My first Space Game was Elite from David Braben. I played it on my C64, which I got in the year 1983 ^^
By the way, I wanted to stress that you can, in fact, fly the craft directly yourself by turning off the autopilot; then tilting or swiping to control heading and using the thrust slider to control speed. Not only that, we have an Inertia Drive toggle which lets you coast in one direction and shoot in another. When you're flying manually, the cinematic camera modes are disabled so as not to interrupt your flying. You can do nearly everything manually that the autopilots do for you and more in some cases. The unguided lasers (shoots straight ahead) in the game are more powerful than missiles and turrets to reward expert flying. Even better if you web a ship to slow it down before you dogfight. And a very cool aid in dogfighting is the use of the gravity vortex bomb.
Hopefully that gives an Elite type feel to the flying which I really am hoping for. I realize this is not an Elite game but I just really like the Newtonian Physics flying model instead of flying like you are in an atmosphere with air. Thanks for the info.
Aim really looking forward to this game Mining in spaceminer was the best so aim glad that you guys also have seen that!
is this gam still going to contain the 3rd person aspect? I see a lot of info relating to the space combat, which is cool, but I was most excited about the mass effect style run n' gun. Has that taken a backseat?
im so glad i found this forum. im a big fan of eve online and have been waiting for ages for a proper mobile equivalent. cant wait to try it, especially with the manual dog-fighting
Goose, it was a tough decision, but we decided to back burner the 3rd person so we could focus on making the space combat as deep and fun as possible. It was incredibly challenging to make the living open world work on mobile devices, but the game runs from a 3GS-class device on up. After the initial release, we intend to add back the 3rd person aspect in an update. The plan calls for using it planetside, inside stations, and also as a means to disable/take over other ships while you're in space. Additionally, we want to imbue the creatures you'll fight with Monster Hunter-like behaviors and AI, so combat will involve gunplay, Mass Effect-like powers, and some skill.
I Cant wait for this game, I just tried evochron legends on my labtop and imidietly thought of this game, sadly my labtop sucks so I can't play evochron, thank god for iPhone and this game. Just hope this game will be out any time soon, October 10 would be cool, it my birthday
We're planning on releasing the game later this month. Not in time for your birthday, sorry! But happy birthday to ya! I hear ya on the huge performance requirements these days for PC space games. And for all the complexity of PC space games like Evochron, X3, and EVE Online, one of the things that we felt most lacking was a good tutorial. We spent a great deal of time on the tutorial for Dangerous and you get into the action right away. The other thing we're proud of is the dialogue engine which drew inspiration from Mass Effect and others. There's an epic storyline (which you can ignore if you want) with lots of characters and dialogue.
You just made me a very happy man, i enjoyed the diolog in mass effect a lot, and the freedom and feelings it gave of being a hero or a jerk (hero for my part) i look forward to this game even more now. No doubt dangerous Will land on my iPhone. Speaking of iPhone, i hope the minimum specs dos not change do to the All new iPhone 4s, Will i still be able to play dangerous on my stupid old 3Gs? Oh....and Will it be iOS 5 compatible?
So what is happening? No news? Release date or anything? I really look forward to this game and I think I have waited long enough (said the spoiled brat)
Kbom, we're still hard at work on the last minute polish. Hope to announce something next week. (Keeping our fingers crossed.) Would have replied a few days sooner, but my original Swiftest account is no longer allowed to post/reply for some reason. Am trying to contact a moderator to figure out why.
Oh, and to answer your previous question, it is 3GS compatible. However, the UI is primarily optimized for the iPad, so there is some internal debate as to whether we want to launch Dangerous HD for iPad first. But we would prefer a universal version at launch if at all possible.
Super cool, but since the 10 of October i have been the owner of both an iPhone 4 and an beautiful snow white iPad 2 16G wi-fi ( since i have an iphone for making calls and texting and after iCloud was released I don't se any reason to buy a bigger one), so really I don't care anymore! I just want this game ASAP You dont need to polish any more do you....g'me, g'me, g'me Whene a you planning to enable the planetside 3rd person feature? You were suppose to use it to hijack ships in space as well, can you still do that? That is an awesome feature I would be sad to miss out on!
Cant wait for this game!Noticed the thread half an hour ago and i am hooked! The scale, the gameplay, the complexity-this game looks like the next big thing I'm going to lose hours to .October is turning out to be the space sim month on the app store-Dangerous,GPA,literally cant wait.Crossing my fingers with you guys, hoping for the end of the month release.Good luck!
All this on a mobile device. D@mn! I mean seriously look at where mobile gaming is headed. I'm excited! Instabuy for me. Also if you guys do open up beta testing to gamers, count me in.
