I was playing on my tv yesterday, and on the tv screen, oh my god, this game and alpha zero, wow they look awesome. They play better than console games cause I can use my ipad as a joystick, and the 3d graphics on both games is totally amazing. Wow, I was shocked how good this and alpha zero looked on my tv. On a tv, a letterboxing doesn't play as much as a factor due to the capability to do zooming on the tv. Don't think iphone 5 hdmi out is as good as ipad 4 hdmi out, but it should be decent enough, and then you all won't have to worry about letterboxing. Dariusburst is totally awesome on my large screen tv via hdmi out from my new ipad. I was absolutely shocked how good this game looked, and I use zoomed in mode on my tv, so almost full screen and no letterboxing. The 3d graphics on a tv for this game, wow, it is so awesome and having an ipad or iphone as controllers works well. Anyway, curious to see how hdmi works for iphone 5, and with all the letterboxing problems that all you have, this seems like a solution that works. Nowadays, most games I much prefer playing on my tv over my retina ipad. But you are like me in the sense that we love shmups, they play wonderfully on tv via hdmi. But Dariusburst in zoomed in mode, wow, it is better looking than arcade games, such awesome 3d art. The retina ipad doesn't bring out the 3d effect out as much as a big tv. And what is truelly amazing is Alpha Zero, which I bought mainly off of your recommendations. It is amazing, almost shocking, to use multifinger multihand controls from an ipad and the graphics are really amazing. Crumble zone too looks awesome. Plus using my tvs speakers are cool cause they are real good. Best $39 investment I have done in a long time. Iphone only games rock on the tv. I can't stand them on my new ipad, but on the tv, they look wonderful. And of course you can use your iphone as a wireless joystick using gamepad games. Now League if evil games work for me cause controls on the ipad versions were too far apart for me. Hdmi is not perfect with letterboxing and is clunky with the cables and all, but with the zoom modes on most tvs, it is a lot of fun. And with airplay supported (true widescreen and ipad used only for controls and maps) games like beat hazard, real racing 2, asphalt 6&7 look awesome. Most all of my games now I far like better on my tv than retina ipad. That was shocking to me. It's a weird console system, but man, it is hella fun. I am enjoying the experience better than my xbox of long ago, by far. And ofcourse there is the other stuff like playing movies (hd full screen), youtube, web, photos, music, etc... I got a 25 foot cable off of amazon for $5.99, with that I can play anywhere in my room. Make sure you get a long cable. It feels no more different than playing an ipad with the power cable in.
