A video of a great game CAN'T be boring! That's all I wanna say. And I don't want to say anything about this video in here... it's just the attitude of the dev. Btw, I think this whole thread was just advertisement, since his new update is out and promoted in another one...
yeah, its a great app, just needs publicity. dont rely on your buyers to buy this then tell all there friends to buy it.
hey Your game is great, need better screen shots and definitely utilize this website and other ipod touch/iphone blogs, this is how people navigate through and appstore with thousands and thousands of apps.
This game looks really fun, you should see if you can get someone to review it, for the review section of the forum, that would advertise it a lot probably.
Well I personally won't buy it because it looks way too random for me.. Tennis balls and missiles etc, Im looking for stuff that works, seems coherent, and will either be amazing or replayable.. Edit: I just watched the video, I would buy it if: animations were smoother, better sounds (and not repetitive), BETTER GRAPHICS, and a more unified theme... to be honest it looks like a computer camp project
That is so true. But deep in my heart I hope that the hard working game developers, who believe in their game (and have a game that is not complete crap) will at least sell enough copies to buy more than five cheeseburgers. I don't expect my game to be another StickWars (hell this John E. Hartzog must be a millionaire by now), I just wonder how to sell ANY copy if you are not in the TOP 100. Thank you for the compliments on the video. I think one main problem was already mentioned by Outkast1: the app store is a separate universe. All developers that I asked said that any advertising anywhere except in the app store did not work at all. New screenshots will come soon. I first had to use the force to defend my bridge of some nasty dogs.
When it comes to games we are pretty picky, because after all the game has to be nice and entertaining. Of course you have trends in the games market as well. In the last couple of years the bigger the game, the better it seemed. So - make your game BIG. Not in the sense of megabytes - make it big in gameplay and fun. Start gving promo codes to AppSites, who will review your game. Listen to them and foremost: listen to your community. Talk to other developers. Start remembering the games you had the most fun with and realize why. Use this knowledge within your game. Btw. - in germany you got nine 5-star-ratings and one 3-star-rating for your game so far. So your game MUST be entertaining somehow. Use google to get tips about good advertising, read these instructions carefully. And the main thing to do for you (even as an indie developer): make your name a brand (which can be remembred easily) and get a hooking name for your game! "Defend your phone" sounds a little boring, to be honest. How about a name like TapDeflector or SwipeDeflector? (just for example...)
I would not rely solely on selling iPhone games. A real job is needed in order to pay your mortgage. Even if it's not always entertaining to stay 8 hrs in the office, it provides you a constant monthly income. iPhone development should rather be a hobby - or else you will be disappointed. I'm also developing games, but rather for fun. (Of course I wouldn't mind to be as lucky as Ethan Nicholas for example. But let's be realistic...)
Just to agree with others that this game really needs to be seen in action as the animation is top rate but in the still screenshots the gameplay is not clear at all. My only whine, as a big fan of Survivalist like games, is that, if I read the messages right, even if I am finally defated I only need to replay the last level? I feel this "endless continue" aspect makes the scores meaningless. If not wanting to be too harsh to kill off the player once defeated, give a couple of lives so they can continue a couple of times before the game ends and the player's last save is deleted.
I agree with you LordGek this "endless continue" is not the best. However, I thought that if I punish the player (e.g. loose a life), then he would always leave the game shortly before he will die, just to reload to the last save point. Nevertheless, i think i will integrate a limit in the next update. Here we go with the new screenshots. I'm really not too fast with photoshop. Do you think they explain the game better?
The Lite Demo Version 1.1 of the Game is Out I made a new thread for it: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=37233
Try pushing your game a bit harder. Put a link to it in your signature. That's a great way to get it noticed
I want to hear more about the sleeping under the bridge part, not your game. I've been there before, on purpose though, slept next to a dumpster a few times, really interesting experience.
Your game looks amazing !! The problem is the way it is mad makes it hard to sum up in pictures . I only understood your game after watching the video . I think with better advertising and a few reviews from review sites would see this game a success .
