I've just seen this banner ad at the top of the TA website: OK, sure, whilst there might be nothing disturbing about it on a *LITERAL* level, there is definitely an underlying disturbing creepy pervy seediness. This advert does not say "gaming" to me - it says something else entirely. I for one would not like to see the adversting on TA brought down to this level...
sex sells. The marketing approach is fairly simple. Put a gorgeous blonde on an ad and people are bound to click on it to see what it links too. Their demographic seems to be men. Or teenagers who are Hor-ny, and looking for nude-ness.
these ads are just unprofessional. i mean who can possibly be turned on by these small, no-nude, tiny excuse for photos? i mean, for me, at least, having a random bleach-blonde face on this type of ad actually cons it. it would have had much better and more positive effect on me without a girl at all. she just doesn't in there.
Regardless of how people feel about sexism, i think it's just kind of shady and TA has better integrity than that.
lol and she looks like she just grabbed a bowl of spaghetti from there to put on her head as a makeshift wig.
Totally agree with the sentiments expressed here by other users, I do not like seeing this at all. Ads like this are part of the reason I have Adblock Plus. Of course, I disable it on TA and other sites I wish to support. TA's a lot better than this.
Hah, that's nuthin'! You guys should have seen the ad for the game "Beaver: The First Wood"!!! No really, it's a game: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/beaver-the-first-wood/id361170413?mt=8
all i see is a green meadow, but that's fine, because if there's grass on the field then it is safe to play on it.
Ugh! Here's another one from AppShopper, TouchArcade's sister site: Seriously, TA, where's the integrity? Surely you can just say no to advertisers like this?
You guys are missing the whole point of "Advertising" It may not be the most appropriate but it grabs your attention. It makes you wanna see what the ad is about. It works. Its an ad. Thats what they are supposed to do. TA is making money from it, keeping this site online, and keeping the forums open (VBulletin Costs a lot per year for a license.) Ads help fund the payroll account, helps pay the cost for the apps development, helps pay for the server, the security measures for the server. It garners exposure for an app or game, increasing a developers revenue. It helps feed the magical unicorns Eli adopted, and helps fund their vaccinations and horn sharpening sessions.
Finally someone else, I posted the same thing about a month ago and was shut out. They need to remove those kind of adds because kids DO use this site.
