I have been playing skateboarding games since way back when the first Tony Hawk game was released on PS1. It immediately became one of my favorite genres, and the more 'realistic' the more I took to it. (Thrasher: Skate and Destroy, if anyone remembers that, was my favorite for this reason.) Now we have things like Skate on consoles which is much, much better than THPS in my opinion.

However, lately I've been thinking about how well these sort of games work on touch device. Touchgrind (regardless of the limited perspective) was sort of mind blowing for me when it was released. Flipping the board around just 'feels' right in that game.

Another one I picked up recently is PureSkate, and even though it is stiff and sorta looks like ass, just skating around and doing basic tricks is surprisingly fun thanks to nicely implemented touch controls.

I've heard that this is the case with First Try Fridays as well, though I've been trying to find more reviews of it before I plunk down $8 on a little skate sim.

And, of course, this brings us to TrueSkate from what may be my favorite iOS dev True Axis. From all the impressions and videos I've seen it seems like it may be among the most 'realistic' skating video games ever made, thanks to its touch controls.

So... what does everyone else think? Flickin' sticks or swipin' boards?
