I just found this on "Fingergaming"'s discussion - and did a quick search and didn't find discussion, so - Edge Pulled for Trademark Infringement. Discuss.
WTF for real. I was wondering about this... I wanted this game and just never had extra pennies to spend on a game. Now that i do it gets pulled.
This kind of news makes me want to listen to some rage against the machine and slowly repeat some sort of mantra to myself saying its really ok for people to act like this.
Typically you cannot, per se. Common vernacular is in the public domain. A trademark is a combination of words and design. So this is not "Edge" vs. "Edge." This is vs. . These kind of disputes often take time to sort out, as they are so subjective.
Hopefully, now that he is about to pick a fight with EA (he has announced the release of his new game, Mirrors Edge), things may change.
Edge is still available on the Australian store. I wonder why it wasn't pulled from the Aus app store.
You really have to wonder if it's worth pursuing an infringement case. I can already see some negative press generated for EDGE games. A lot of people go wild trying to protect their trademarks and engage in frivolous cases like this one and end up hurting their company image in the long term. People really don't understand company goodwill. I'm not saying companies shouldn't protect their intellectual properties or trademarks, but you really have to pick your battles.
absolutely ridiculous......its like trademarking "game" and suing the hell outta everybody. guys like that are the reason why our society is as rotten as it is.
Quick Search that's the problem. Once again a glaring example of how beneficial title search would've been. First hit this thread. Next two hits are related. Fourth hit isn't but fifth one is.
