You're absolutely right. Space Miner and GoF 2 are actually similar in type too. GoF 2 handily overtakes Space Miner in my book, and I loved Space Miner.

They aren't really similar at all.

Says you. Both games revolve around space combat, ore collecting, and upgrading your ship.

Ignorance is bliss, but so is Infinity Blade.

Is Perfect Cell even a platformer?

Although I only ticked it as okay, I personally don't think it's a bad list by any stretch of the imagination. These lists are always going to be subjective and at the end of the day, the perceived accuracy of the results can only boil down to individual preferences. Where there is a rundown of the years best (or worst), there will always be controversy. Thats the nature of the beast.

That said, there can't be too much criticism levelled at Touch Gen in crowning Infinity Blade as their 2010 iOS Game of the Year. Few could argue that Chair's Unreal 3 masterpiece isn't a hugely impressive marriage of rich, rewarding gameplay and stunning, deeply polished visuals, the likes of which had never been seen before on the iOS platform. Groundbreaking indeed.

Yet despite this, Infinity Blade isn't my Game of the Year. Nope, not for me. In fact, I'd say that Touch Arcade's own particular choice of Space Miner: Space Ore Bust is a far more deserving candidate and bang on the money. It's certainly worthy my vote too... Speaking which, here's my very own mini iOS Game of the Year awards ceremony:

    Best RPG/Adventure Game:
    INFINITY BLADE
    Runner Up:
    DUNGEON DEFENDERS FW

    SPACE MINER SPACE OR BUST
    Runner Up:

    Third Place:
    GALAXY ON FIRE 2

    FRUIT NINJA
    Runner Up:
    DARK NEBULA 2
    Third Place:

    Most Pleasantly Surprised By:
    MUSHIHIMESAMA BUG PANIC
    Runner Up:
    SUPER BLAST 2
    Third Place:
    NFS HOT PURSUIT

    Most Disappointing Game of 2010:
    GANGSTAR 2 MIAMI VINDICATION
    Runner Up:
    PRO EVO SOCCER 2011
    Third Place:
    BATTLEFIELD 2: BAD COMPANY

(Game that) Would Most Benefit from Retina Display:
    GRAND THEFT AUTO CTW
    Runner Up:
    STREET FIGHTER IV
    Third Place:
    CALL OF DUTY: ZOMBIES

    Best Multiplayer Experience:
    MODERN COMBAT 2 BLACK PEGASUS

    Developer of the Year:
    CAVE
    Runner Up:
    GAMELOFT
    Third Place:
    SQUARE ENIX

And now for the big one...

The 2010 iPhone/iPod Touch Game of the Year is:

    SPACE MINER SPACE OR BUST
    Runner Up:
    RAGE HD
    Third Place:
    REAL RACING 2

Okay, yes there are one or two contraversial entries, but hey, I said it was subjective!

This concludes the East London iOS Game of the Year Awards Ceromony for 2010. If 2011 turns out to be just half as good as 2010 was, we're in for one helluva good year!*See you back here next year.

Wishing all Touch Arcade members the very best of luck for a happy and healthy year ahead.

How can anyone like Space Miner?

You basically just drive around in your spaceship and collect things and avoid things.... kinda boring????

I laughed and closed their web page when I saw they listed Dungeon Hunter 2 as a runner-up for the best action game of the year. Lol wtf. Just because it's 3D, has the word "hunter" in the name, and made by Gameloft doesn't mean it's an action game.
The funniest part about these "reviews" is that sometimes they get the game's genre mixed up. Next they'll be saying Doodle Jump is the best KRPG of the year.
