If TouchArcade is one of the premier iOS gaming sites, why do they never have these types of hands on impression/early Gameloft games?
Active Time Battle system, nice. I'm probably going to hold off until I find out more about the length of the game though.
That is a good question, last year TA was on point with video exclusives so much that Pocketgamer had to stop doing their video podcasts (cause they kept getting scooped), but lately random ass sites like TheGameTrail, Touchgen and SlideToPlay have gotten the jump on them with a lot of vids this year. Maybe TA is content with being the biggest site with all the blog info, with videos as a bonus.
Well... The video really defined the game, in ways photos and screenshots could not. I had very much been maintained an opinion of "wait and see..." with Eternal Legacy. This game is now elevated higher on my "Must" list than ever before. (I loved Lost Odyssey, on 360. I also enjoy jrpgs.) This game will fill a huge void on iOS and look stunning doing so, all without so much as batting an eyelash. I almost wish Asphalt 6 were never coming, as it takes up a week that a real gem COULD have been released. This looks incredible and falls right after: Aralon, Nova 2, Infinity Blade and Shadow Guardian, as my personal must buy games.
But I'd love to see videos, as announcements and pics only convey so much. This is one of those cases, where I had lower expectations. The video sold me. Pictures or words, can only convey so much about a game. It's when a video comes along, showing those fine points, that the picture really becomes clear. Take Infinity Blade. Chair described the gameplay, but still people were confused and wondered with much imagination, how the game would play. After a video showed the fighting and exploration, we finally had a genuine perspective and clarity on the matter. I love TouchArcade dearly, they just need to get with the program and wrangle exclusive hands on impressions and videos.
Does appear to be turn-based, but it looks fricken awesome. A game like this cannot have a lame story though, which worries me. Bad voice acting, I could begrudgingly accept, but crappy storytelling in a JRPG, I cannot. Although, admittedly, not every Gameloft game has featured terrible writing. Never stellar writing, granted, but certainly passable at times. At other times though, not passable at all. And I agree that Asphalt is a waste of release space. Tired and formulatic, dull, boring and uninspired drivel. I really can't think of a worse non-sports related franchise for Gameloft other than Asphalt. Gameloft sucks at sports, but everything else they do is usually solid, with the exception of Asphalt.
Yeah I agree. Thing is, these forums have always acted like the front page blog, in that posters post videos here anyway, so we all end up having videos to go along with Toucharcade's writeups anyway. Hell, I do it all the time myself. Compare that with the community for Pocketgamer, SlidetoPlay, Touchgen, etc. Even though they get tons of web traffic and page hits, their forums and comment sections are utter ghost towns. So... there's that. Maybe next year TA might be forced to buck up.
Yeah TouchArcade's forums are way better than the rest. I just look at them all, it's nice to see different people's perspectives anyway. Back onto the topic, if this game has a passable story could be one of my favorite games on the iOS. I hope it has a good story though I'm a sucker for good stories.
wow! now this game looks really great in action! story, length and RPG elemnts balance are the only things that might break this game
I'm hoping Eternal Legacy doesn't have any of those annoying puzzles like in Chaos Rings. Those completely ruined the flow of the game IMO.
