I'm writing an essay on why fast food is so bad for you and I have some points of my own, but would like to know about what you think about fast food (bk, mcd, taco bell, etc.)
Why do you think it's so bad?
Do you eat there a lot?
If you do, why do you eat there if you know it's not healthy?

thanks, this will help me out a lot!

The meat is usually not actually meat - probably some processed rat.
You risk getting an STI from the workers spunking in your food.
The grease on the floors of KFC (in England at least) is like an ice rink.
I even heard that the Mcflurry (ice creams) in McDonalds aren't Vegetarian because they contain meat products (and I heard that from someone that works there).

    OMG! That makes me sick.

Yeah, I don't have that much junk food, only for a treat.

Maybe once or twice a month.

Fast Food is on every corner, it's easily attained on your way home. It's cheap and taste's good. Except 20min later when you feel like sh*t! lol

If I eat fast food I'll only eat Taco Bell maybe once a month but I get Subway almost everyday.

In 'n Out Burger here in California has the best fast food imo! I could eat a double double everyday!!

I don't eat fast food. Not because I think it's bad, I just don't like it. It is only bad for you if you are unaware of how many calories you take in over all. By itself it's fine. Too many people have no idea about basic nutrition. That is their fault. This info has been on the Internet for since the begining and it's free. The American Dietetic Association is a good place to start.

    This is true.

My neighbor has actually lost a couple hundred lbs eating McDonalds. She only eats a hamburger every couple hours without the bun. She doesn't like to cook... lol

that is actually REALLY interesting. it seems like the complete opposite of the movie "supersize me", where a man eats mcdonalds for a whole month for breakfast lunch and dinner.

Did you see what he ate? He always ate huge meals and drank huge cokes that were supersized. His meals were probably 1500-3000 calories each!

McDonald's hamburger patty has 80-100 calories.

That guy had an agenda. There are things on fastfood menus that are low in calories. You just need to know what to look for. To pick the highest calorie items and use that as an indictment of the whole concept is very dishonest. People should do their own research, otherwise they are just someone elses pawn.

processed rat must taste good then.

  11. Good to see the urban legends are still floating around...

    1. McDonald's ice cream products do not contain "meat" or any bybroduct thereof, nor pig fat or anything of the sort. [cite]

    2. The meat for their burgers is beef. As in, actual cow meat. The same sort you buy in the supermarket. No eyeballs or worms or anything like that. I thought this one had been shot down ages ago. Loads of cites for this one if you need one; Snopes has several.

    3. Employees "spunking" or spitting on food ... well, that happens anywhere, really, particularly if you piss one of them off. That isn't exclusive to fast food.

I can agree with greasy floors, at least way back in the day when I used to work fast food. However I'm inclined to think (depending on where you are) that floors are generally kept pretty clean because slippery floors are an accident and subsequent lawsuit waiting to happen.

But yes, I do eat fast food once in a while. It's cheap, convenient, mostly edible. Not all of it is bad for you -- actually most of it's perfectly fine in moderation, as long as you know what goes into it and have the presence of mind to adjust your daily caloric and fat intake accordingly. Most people don't. Even I don't a lot of the time, but I'm getting better at it. Generally speaking though the actual food at most places is decent in terms of the list of ingredients. The real killers are in desserts, shakes, things like that. Go to a place like Dairy Queen and I recall one of their specialty ice creams was somewhere on the order of 1500 calories. That's damn near the daily intake of an average person of normal weight!

So, yeah. Everything in moderation and it's fine for the most part.

This is as stupid thing to say, do you really think they would get away with that. The chicken is chicken, the beef is beef and they always say what kind of meat it is
Just no, you can see in to the cooking areas
    That is true...
They are vegetarian, they would be sued out of their mind if they weren't

Why I eat at (some) fast food places, convenience when on the motorway, speed and taste. I only eat fast food once a month.
I think people are over the top about fast food, sure it's bad for you but if you are clever you will balance out with other meals and exercise. It's all down to your own intelligence

Why do you think it's so bad?

The way it is cooked and processed

Do you eat there a lot?

    Yes

If you do, why do you eat there if you know it's not healthy?

Tastes Good and is cheap. I'm by no means fat, I'm actually very skinny. I just know what about nutrition and balance my diet

People who complain about fast food, for the most part, are exaggerating. It's hard to cook food quickly without using ample amounts of fat, true (it takes freakin' FOREVER to bake french fries), and yes, most of the value meals hit the 1000 calories mark if you get a double cheeseburger, fries, milkshake, and little cardboard apple pie. But it won't give you an instant heart attack. Learn to eat well, actually cook, and work-out. You'll be fine. I eat fast food about once a week. That's one out of 21 meals, and exercise 6 days out of the week.

And I honestly can't believe people actually think that spare animal parts go into their food. It's not prime meat, that's for sure, but the FDA isn't gonna let chains do whatever the hell they want. What you're eating is fine. Employees will only hock a loogie into your food if you disrespect them. If I worked 10 hours shifts to receive crap from other people, I'd probably do the same.

I don't eat much fast food but I think McDonald's is the worst all around. For some reason I feel greasy, dirty and disgusting after eating it. Pretty much all other fast food places are okay but I'd rather just have regular food.

I do like Steak 'n' Shake though.

lol, I can't believe people took me seriously

Personally, I hate the snobs that complain about fast food.

I was just writing down some of the things that I have heard of in the past. I eat fast food pretty regularly (burger king and subway are the best IMO), I don't gain any weight (because I eat in moderation and burn off excess calories through exercise). The only part that was true was about the meat products in the Mcflurry. I know this is true (or at least it used to be), here in England.
Even my Aunty who is a wine critic, she works earning £60k+ for a business, she is great at cooking, lives in a massive house in one of the most expensive areas of London and yet she still loves fast food!

Calm down, I said spunking not spitting.
And you failed to realise that I was joking (why/how would I believe in that BS).

  18. Baked fries also taste dry and dull. But really, you can make fries the proper way, just use a decent oil and drain them well; most fast food joints give fries a quick 5-second draining which leaves a sheen of oil on them because they have to work quickly. Do it at home and let 'em drain for a good 30 seconds, shaking periodically and you'll lose most of the oil and have perfectly good, crispy fries that taste like proper fries. And don't get the coated extra crispy ones either, use plain ol' tater fries. Or get fresh potatoes and cut 'em up yourself.

Cooking stuff yourself though is always the best way to go. Fast food is great once in a while, but cooking stuff yourself lets you know exactly what you're stuffing your face with, and you can make it with healthy, low-fat, low-cholesterol ingredients. (Or if you're making something a little decadent you can make certain substitutes, like table cream (18%) instead of heavy (35%), lite margarine instead of full-fat butter, fat-free cream cheese instead of regular, things like that.)

It's easy once you know how, and there are tons of places on the net to get recipes. (allrecipes.com is a good place to start.)

If you're going to have fast food though go online and check their health guide, or ask for one in the restaurant and use that as a guide to eating fast food healthier. As long as you watch what you eat you're fine.

OMG. You made me very hungry for it. In 'N Out is one of the best! Get the Animal Fries, it taste like you can clot at any moment and it is so good at the same time. Hehe.

I've read Fast Food Nation and even though it scares me a small bit, I still eat at fast food restaurants. I don't think it's a big issue for me. I know that there are things we don't want to hear of what is going in those places but I try not to think about it, just like how drinking tap water in California is bad but I still do it.

I eat Chipotle once a week and that's it. But when I get the chance, In 'N Out is the place to go ;) Not a Subway fan. I used to love it but it taste so plain every time I buy the sandwiches. I guess that is why it is one of the few healthy food chains, maybe.
