I love platformers, and I'd say I probably have played/bought almost every decent to great one on ios to date. I usually like to list them in two ways though adventure and speed.

    Adventure:
    Soozis
Assassin's Creed (I see it as a platformer anyway)
    Giana Sisters
    Chop Chop Ninja
    Frogatto
    NyxQuest
    Terra Noctis
    Lumi
    Lars
    Bounce on
    Rolando

    Speed:

    League of Evil
    Pizza Boy
    Beans Quest
    Stardash
    Mos Speedrun
    Pixnlove rush
    Cavorite

Been deleting games of my itunes, so only a few of these are still there, so I may be missing a few.

Hmm, In my personal opinion I would count crazy hedgy as more of a adventure explore games, and I tend to think of platformers as almost exclusively from a side-ish view, but if I do include it it would be in the top 3 adventure platformers.

    Suprised nobody mentioned Inertia.

That and NyxQuest are two of my faves.

I'm new to both Sonic CD, Sonic4, and Mega Man X...
Would anyone recommend one over the other? TBH, I don't really care about 'history' or whatever, just looking for a straight up fun new game.

    Thoughts please?

    Thanks in advance!

Bean's Quest & Terra Noctis are both brilliant console quality platformers. And I absolutely love 1-Bit Ninja. My 3 favs.

Those are some that I missed, because they're not on my iPod any more.

Also, I'm looking at buying some of these 3, so if you could list the best it would help a lot:

    Frogatto
    Giana Sisters
    Oscura

    Personal favorites:
    - Soosiz. My #1 - top notch controls, smart level design.
    - Archibald's Adventures. Different, but good - it's more of a puzzle game than a platformer, but that's definitely my cup of tea.
    - Ynth. Same puzzle/platform hybrid gameplay, very clever sometimes, very infuriating some other times. Love it.
    - Terra Noctis. One of the most "classic" platformers on iOS (at least until level 5, I just started playing it). Cool graphics, reasonable controls, all in all a charming game.
    - League of Evil. The hardest platformer I had the patience to play. Ace controls, nice retro graphics, lots and lots of levels. I bet less than 1% of players will ever complete it.

Haven't played Sonic CD yet (very disappointed with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1).

Never played Oscura so can't comment on that.

Between Frogatto & Giana Sisters, to me, its more of if your looking for a Metroidvania type of game (Frogatto) or straight forward platformer getting from start to finish (Giana Sisters).

    Long winded version:

Frogatto: Its more of a Metroidvania game. It has exploration and some back tracking. There's warp points to help speed you up getting to different places. For me, its linear enough that I didn't get lost that often. The game is actually pretty easy, and there's plenty of checkpoints so it never gets frustrating. There's 3 different endless modes to further extend the life of the game. The main reason this is my favorite platformers is the silly personality of the game (& Frogatto). At the risk of losing sale for the dev, they put up a free PC version on their website so you can try it first. Its been a while since I tried the PC version so I don't know if it plays exactly like the iOS version (they've updated the iOS version's controls so it fits the touch controls better). I bought the game on the iOS immediately after trying the PC version just so I can take it anywhere.

Giana Sisters: Its more of a straight get from start to finish platformers. Its been a long time since I played it on the DS, but if I remember, theres plenty of levels. The levels start out short, and never gets too long towards the end. It eventually requires good (enough) timing. Try the lite version to see if its your cup of tea.

Crazy hedgy is definitely a platformer. Think about it...Monkey Ball has always been considered a platformer! Crash Bandicoot is considered a platformer.

Personally, I think that adventure games are more along the lines of "aRPGs" where the story is linear. One could even say that adventure games could be RPG-ish since you do adventuring. Maybe this is an old school view, but I don't really consider CH an adventure game at all.

Okay, I finished my Lumi review. I made it and posted it earlier actually, but I added some stuff to it. it's pretty official now. TBH, I don't even know if I did te game justice with my review. I truly tried to capture the amazing experience, but I don't know if i did. IDK...maybe I'm just being too hard on myself. http://apptitudes.wordpress.com/2012/01/10/lumi-review/

I also made the flashback and included Crazy Hedgy in it. It got a 9.5/10 from me. I docked it half a point for some personal gripes.

I also put up Terra Noctis which received a solid 10/10.

On another note, did anyone that I gifted Lumi to or bought it finish the game yet?!? I beat it yesterday and the last two levels are absolutely amazing. It's by far my favorite platformer from last year.

Well, I was going to update my list but it seems as if everyone has already listed all the platformers I have. I might just make one big comprehensive list of everything mentioned and put them into sub genres.

Also, don't forget that Star Marine: Infinite Ammo comes out tomorrow night! http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=111429

Also, we may or may not see Paper Monsters this week. There hasn't been a confirmation on the approval that I know of. *fingers crossed*

What are some other good platformers that FEEL like League of Evil, Mos Speedrun, and Super Crate Box? I don't like floaty, loose controls, and those three I mentioned have incredibly tight control with characters that feel like they have some weight to them. They also have really fast gameplay. What others are like that?

Based upon the 3 games you listed, I'd recommend Pix n' Love Rush and 1 Bit Ninja.

But as the other guys have shown, there are a ton of platformers that have tight (non-floaty) controls. If I'm not mistaken, most platformers are like this.

    Edit
    I second CheeseMan

    Edit
What's the deal with Roboto? Is it worth dropping the $4 on with all these platformers scheduled to release soon? I wouldn't be asking this if my backlog wasn't already out of control. Also, does it have GC achievements or are they just OF?

Apparently there are some control and frame rate issues with the game so I would probably hold off until they are fixed in an update (hopefully)

Alright thanks! I think I'll just leave it alone for now. If Paper Monsters comes out this week then I'm going to have my hands tied with that an Star Marine anyway.
