Lonan the one that really is a mystery is the review board looking at You for OS. This sort of is the app developers last stand. We are hoping to receive a written report that maps out all our deficiencies and changes that need to be made to get back in the store.

If we receive a vague phone call telling us maybe this and maybe that we probably are better dropping You simply cause this could go back and forth for a whole year.

This is a terrible and disgusting story.
    Totally unjust

I hope this story has a happy ending

and thanks for taking the time to tell us, no matter how sad.
We all need to know what can happen

    53 downloads today

" You" had 53 downloads with the mac app today and we are moving up the charts in the Utility Category. We are really happy with that. My guy in India is starting to be himself again.

    This:

    1. You included things like iPod player, weather, calendar, picture viewer, etc. Perhaps the reviewer really felt you were duplicating too much built-in functionality.

I thought Apple made it pretty clear in the developer agreement that you can't repeat built in functionality, that's why there isn't a better email app on iOS despite needing one desperately! I'm not sure why the reviewer was so obtuse, he just should of pointed out that the idea behind the app repeats much of the iOS and would never be approved.

I am surprised that the did relent and approve the app. I would be careful how you tread from here though.

The app review board was created to deal with rejected apps swiftly. We have tried communicating with the board regarding YOU but the only thing we ever got was this self generated message on January 24.

Thank you for submitting your app appeal request, we appreciate your commitment to iOS app development.

We will review your request as quickly as we can and get back to you when the review is completed. We appreciate your patience through this process.

Once a decision has been made, you will be contacted by a member of the App Review Board.

    Thank you,
    App Review Board

This has been going on for a very long time now so we have decided to give up and reject the binary and build a new YOU without the help of the review board. We are really feeling bad because we have a lot of customers who bought YOU when it first came out. We promised up and down that we would get this new version approved. It is going now on for 3 months and not even a real comment from apple in over a month. We simply can't deal with this anymore. We are going build a new version and submit it.

I really hope no one ever has to go through something like this. I would rather get yelled at than this silent treatment. Very degrading.

That story is sad and all, but if you tried reading apple guidelines first, you could avoid that situation alltogether. You can't copy built in functionality and expect to be treated well. Maybe if you made some awesome calendar app or weather app with many functions or a separate browser, that makes sense, but just to copy like all functions that are already built in, that makes no sense to me. Why doesn't your friend just make something useful instead? Like a game or utility app that is not built in already.

Voley the word useful is a very interesting word. YOU was probably one of the most useful apps on the store. It organized peoples day and allowed them to go to one place to find out everything they wanted to know. It would wake you feed you with weather and news. The alarms and reminders would warn you about upcoming events and so on....

I used and it worked amazingly well. As for copying built in functionality I think Apple actually encourages this more than any other provider. The word copying isn't quite correct as well since most code was written from scratch.

The only issue Apple had was the app resembled a desktop. And that is where it stopped.

The developer has since produced Office Alarm (in Review) Time Sheet (photo verified)
Universal Time for Mac ( in review) and YOU for Mac using a lot of components from the original You.
