Oh, I guess I'll have to check with you next time. Sorry about that. da_shiz, I bought that one also. They're all good games, so it's not that big of a deal. It just starts to make you wonder which apps it will happen with. If it weren't two weeks after they come out, it probably wouldn't be as irritating.
I know, I dunno how John could have gone this low. It's pathetic. This game doesn't deserve to be free. At all. - I'm awaiting for those angry iTunes reviewers who always rate it 1 star saying "wtf i bought this then it when free, " - Seriously, John this is a new low..
He won't give us a sale on blue or red (lately) but he'll throw a brand new game for free. This makes no sense. I don't understand this one, Sad.
I know what you mean, but then... when a game is only $0.99 or $1.99 I'd be quite happy paying just to play it a little sooner, even if it's only a week. In fact even if the developer told me on release day that it'd be free in seven days I'd probably still cough up the money to start playing as soon as possible. If it's a game I'm interested in, obviously.
No I agree, it's just that it seems as though some great small titles are panicking (? for lack of better word) to get their name noticed and jump quicker to the free route. This sets up a ripple effect for others and so what everyone used to complain about the price drops is now shifting to complaining about free apps. Complain about free apps you say? I just still don't want the quality and the choices of the app store to suffer because it is not a worthwhile venture for some smaller companies to invest in. And yeah, I got Fastar! when it was on sale on launch day - I have gotten WAY more than my dollar's worth. No complaints about that. Just that if a game of this popularity (or maybe it wasn't as much as I thought?) has to go the free route for a day, what does that say for even lesser titles? Didn't this hit the top ten in its first week? So that is what is sad to me. The unique app store marketing strategy might be squeezing out some potential hits because people won't be able to afford making them.
I only think with how disappointed people are at seeing such a quality game like FASTAR! going free, maybe FAAD should take a *cough* perm *cough* break.
Why would they do that? In fact it is probably quite a feather in their cap to get a top ten app to go free. It adds to their offerings and will be used to encourage more devs to join in the program. What I find a little funny is that for the past week or more there have been days that ICS Mobile has been announcing a "huge" app to go free on such and such a day and those were eh titles to me. But this one came in silently and to me it would be one of the "huge" apps that would generate a LOT of interest and anticipation. It's the long term outcome that remains to be seen. I know that I have certainly cut my spending habits unless it is something I HAVE to have on release. That kind of backfires the marketing angle that all these programs use though since I don't see people with iPhones to show them off to. So I am not one of their walking billboards that they would like me to be so to speak. Sorry free programs.
Funny thing is, why do I have the memory of the Fastar! developer posting he wasn't going to make the game go free?
The Hype is back! Another great one coming up! We also have some insanity on deck for Labor Day:September 4th! You are warned! Never understimate the Power of FAAD! ....Never!
But Labor Day in the US is the 6th of September. So far the one to create the biggest stir was a silent price drop!
