Sign me up for one as well! I'd have bought this if it weren't for the NBA Jam thing... and Superbrothers... and, well all the other sales. Someday I WILL 'finish' GoF 1 and then I'll buy the sequel.
I used to play EVE online, which I enjoyed very much. But in EVE, you can auto pilot and target, which is very convenience, is it the same for GOF2? Or is GOF2 very easy to control that you don't need auto pilot and target?
Yes you certainly can auto pilot . There is no such thing as auto target though . It makes it less fun that way . But it isn't hard to control the plane yourself . Why watch the AI control the plane and get 100% hit when it's more fun when you control it yourself ?
Not like it would make you die, but autopilot is not 100% safe: it can make your ship fly thru asteroids and crash on them
I tried the Lite earlier in the week. It did take some getting used to. I am still fairly wobbly when flying, but I am doing fairly well against the enemy playing on Normal. I do wish flying was not so wobbly. You can change your controls through the Options screen and try different values for sensitivity. With this type of game, you need to be aware of your surroundings. When flying, there is a big circle on the screen. This is sort of like a heads-up-display which points out important things. Red indicates an enemy ship in that direction. Blue indicates your next step in a mission. Fly toward the blue mark and it will come into view on your screen. Fly towards it and you will reach your next waypoint. If there are red markings, then there are enemy around. On the left side is a special button. Click on the button and it will give you some options like, "Fly to waypoint", "Fly to space station". Select waypoint for the next part of the mission and your ship will autopilot to the next location. Sometimes the waypoint is just an open location in space. Other times the waypoint may be a jumpgate. There is another button to fast forward the game. If enemy are in the area, you are unable to fast forward. The upper right of the screen has a '?' which can give you some help. Admittedly, I did find the Lite rather sparse on explaining things. Though being familiar with space sims, I picked things up rather quickly. At one point, you need to attach equipment to your ship. This was extremely confusing. Once you buy the equipment you need to go to your ship and click on the item in the equipment list. There is a button to the right that looks like it is attached. Click on it so the button icon looks separated, but it actually attaches the equipment to your ship. I spent several minutes trying to figure this out until I realized the button icon seems opposite of what I would expect. Hopefully this helps a bit in getting going with the Lite. I started playing the full game this morning and am having a blast! I am so glad to have a space sim at this level on a portable device. It is games like this that make me excited for the iPad's capabilities.
I brought it, really early into the game yet, but looking nice so far, however I do not yet feel it's worth 4.99 yet.
I really recommend this one. Over 16 hours and counting. The Lite version doesn't completely grasp the game (the ship you use is a very basic one). Has anyone here played Escape Velocity?
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha NO! Just keep playing. I felt the same way at the begining. Now, I'm really starting to like it.
I am absolutely thrilled with this game. I had fun with the Lite, and am having a blast with the full game. It very much reminds me of Freelancer. Just like with Freelancer, I really enjoy the excitement I get when seeing a new station. I just hit the point in the game where the Lite version started. This game really does have all of the features and game play elements I expect from a space sim, and they are pretty nicely done. There are some aspects I would like to see: improved flight control as flying is a little wobbly, adding a throttle or at least be able to stop, being able to navigate across multiple systems (maybe that comes later with an upgraded ship part?)...but overall, the game is really well done and packed with lots of features. One of the best purchases I've made on the Touch and iPad.
How is the space combat (especially later into the game) compared to the lite version? I loved Freelancer on the PC, but found the space combat in GoF2 lite version to be "lacking". The space combat to me just isn't really fun. Does the combat get more fun in the full version? This is the main issue that keeps me from getting this game. The space exploration, trading & mining is fine for me.
There is a slight difference but the core system does not change much from full to lite version of the game in terms of combat. You get bigger ships with Turret and hold more secondary weapons such as the rockets, but the idea is the same, you have to careful aim the tiny target yourself when from range, and chase around when they get close or pass you. The problems are for me, you can stop your ship, nor there is a difference in speed from one ship to the other. At the end, you would be pretty much on own age for combat, just like a lot of space trading games out there.
Cool... Yeah, in the lite version when I switch ships, to me there doesn't feel like theres much difference in terms of combat handling. I know there's different number of equipment slots and cargo slots, but in terms of the speed/combat handling, personally I can't feel that much difference. I read in the main GoF2 thread its by design that there's no speed controls, so maybe as a side effect, the ships feels pretty much the same to me. I know others have mentioned, but yeah, since you can't stop your ship, it makes mining a bit more annoying. And since you can't at least match speed of enemies or decrease your speed compared to enemies (compared to PC space sims), it makes combat a bit annoying to me too. I remember playing Xwing/Tie Fighter/Freelancer, I'll just get behind enemies and start the matching just slower than the enemy speed to fight them. With GoF2, when I get behind the enemies, very quicky I'll either get left behind or overshoot them. None of these are game breakers, but its always present during game play for me and makes the game not as fun as it could be. Comment about Star Battalion: I bought Star Battalion and thought it was a fun game (despite its flaws). I didn't like the controls as much (GoF2's flight controls feels much better, aside from the speed controls). But the space combats feels more fun and there's more "excitement" in most of the missions to me (aside from killing the drones quests). Too bad I don't know of an IOS game that has the combination of GoF2 with the excitement & variety of Star Battalion's space combat.
Yea I've just finished the game and that was around 10 hours worth of playtime. Of course you are left with a lot of gear and ship to upgrade that would require a lot of money, but I personally don't find it very interesting anymore. Not to mention that the story is actually pretty poor. Nevertheless is really good action and feel great during game play. I will buy the expansion that is coming out for GOF2 but I would not buy anymore space trader game in this format.
