TA will never be a good representative of iDevice gaming's whole population. But it's better than nothing @.@

Guys go out and buy a newer iPod touch. It's not that hard to solve this problem.

Sucks, but i guess we can enable this by patching the Firmware.

Seems pretty harsh of Apple to do this. Restricting devices from using certain apps due to inadequate hardware is fair enough, but it's not like older devices can't handle the game center.
Apple should be encouraging developers to develop apps designed specifically for newer devices, maybe offering incentives (i.e - free advertising in iTunes). That way, they'd be moving technology forward without pissing off people who own older devices.

Because we can all afford hundreds of dollars for a new iPod whenever we want?

I don't think you understand, Apple's attempt to create a high end gaming platform (by limiting Gamecenter to these newer more powerful devices) means you'll eventually have to get a new device to play along.

Jailbreaking your old 3G or 1st/2nd Gen Touch will not give you 256MB of RAM to run programs in, it won't magically upgrade your CPU to 600 Mhz, it wont pop in a new GPU with OpenGL ES 2.0. Jailbreaking as an attempt to run a game that is meant for the future Gamecenter will most likely end up in "heartbreak" for you instead, as you find out the game you bought doesn't have enough RAM to boot, or runs as slow as molasses in January, or crashes as soon as you enter the game (when GL ES 2.0 shaders try to execute on hardware that does not support them).

If you're very lucky a small percentage of the games (simpler ones) will work with a hacked firmware on an old device, but any of the *really cool* ones that everyone raves about will be a no-go.

LBG- I believe this *is* Apples way to encourage devs to create games only for newer devices, if you read my analysis starting back on the second page. Why allow an older device to connect to Gamecenter if none of the games that will appear on Gamecenter can run on it? ;)

The problem isn't to be restrictive with other models but to be restricted with models still sold less than one year ago. You can argue as much than you want but you can't defend that.

Quote I don't care at all so I'm not involved, I have an iPad dot, devices as iphone/ipad/std ds are just too small for me, a lot too small, that's kids stuff.

Yes, I realise this, but it still doesn't seem fair in my opinion. I'm guessing there will be apps that will use Game Center that still would run fine on iPod Touch 2G and iPhone 3G. So why restrict devices of an app that they are perfectly capable of running?
Older devices should be phased out by hardware limitations, IMO. Yes, there will be apps that use Game Center that older devices won't be able to run, but there's no reason to stop older devices from using Game Center with other apps.
Although, personally I'm not affected (I have an iPhone 4), it still seems a bit unfair.

On one side we have people that want support for older devices. And on the other we have people who want support for newer devices like the iphone 4 and the soon to come ipod touch 4. If you look at the games now there's quite a bit of them supporting retina display and now with iPhone 4 anti-aliasing too. Look at real racing, anti aliasing was available since the 3GS but they didn't support it until now with the iPhone 4. If you want the bar to be raised you have to abandon old hardware. Everyone is comparing the DS but they forget that the DS too only supported gba ganes for a lil while then they stopped to move on. That's what apple is doing and what commander data is trying to say also. Sure they can do highdcores and whatnot but they're in it to make money and supporting old hardware isn't a great way to do that.

Remember 2nd and 1st gen iPod aren't supported that's 2 yrs. Why is everyone saying that it's only a year? Last years was the iPod touch 3rd gen which supported. Maybe 2 yrs is t that much either but don't say it's o e year where it's clearly a device 2 yrs old

This whole iPod Touch 2G racism thing from apple sucks ass. I mean, for real, why do they handle the device as obsolete and force me to buy a new one to get features like a custom wallpaper in menu view. This is just the tip of the iceberg...

Guess what? Mc Donalds hires all the time. Oh, and actually, I'm between jobs right now myself. It is hard, but there will always be something available to those who are willing.

On topic... Bunca whiney brats here. Get thyself un butt hurt and deal with it. Apple sucks if you're not loaded. Learn to cope. ( and no I'm nowhere even remotely near rich.)

I am so tired of, " well you buy me one then". Just stupid.Begin phase one of Extermination of stupid little whiners.
