Gameloft needs better game compression?

Gameloft values small details-music, textures, details, animations, facial expressions. This leads to the game being quite large.

No way brah, their new games have the highest prices so they better have the highest quality in terms of specs and details. But you're right 99c for 300mb is annoying and makes it easier for me to delete it without a regret.

    +1 to that

I don't hate Gameloft (can't love their rip-off games though). The point of this thread isn't about how bad their games are, but how lazy they are in properly compressing the filesize.

That point is moot because per my example:
No one can say Real Racing has less attention to details and depth or NFSU has less contents and worse textures or cutscenes than Asphalt 5.

YET Asphalt 5 is almost as big as Real Racing and NFSU combined!!

Rip-off games? You name clones rip-off? Which one?

Sports games? You believe sport games are the property of EA? All EA sport games are rip off of older games. Gameloft car games are rip off? I'd say all car games are rip off of older car games.

So there's Nova with similarities with Halo story. Well I played the beginning of both and felt them rather different anyway. And I didn't found Halo better at all. Not that I like much Nova because for now I haven't see first person shooter controls working well for me on an ipad and for this it's Gameloft that do the best on ipad with many options and many customization possibility.

If there was any Halo rip off problem believe me that MS won't let this let through so no reason to complain of a rip-off for this game.

Other than that I don't see what you could tag rip-off.

While I don't share them, I get the extreme emotions surrounding Gameloft. I kind of view them like the E.A. for iDevices (without the strong i.p. portfolio): They make a few brilliant games, a few really bad ones and a lot of mediocre ones. They do however always seem to deliver on production values which is what sells most games whether we like it or not...

*Yes I am aware the actual E.A. also makes games for iOs

I see, and you probably pinpoint the main point. Myself I feel "mediocre" a lot too strong, I played more than 3/5 hours only few of their games so I'm not well placed to evaluate their games with a deep point of view.

I think it's a superficial vision and people imagine they sell a lot but I doubt it's that much. Did they buy any smaller developer team? As far I know the answer is no.

Yes the production value seems high in most of their games but if their lite versions have been too often too short, most of them give a very good idea of what is the gameplay behind the production, so they play it fair and I'm still waiting such fair play from many team like a demo of Chaos Ring for example.

Everybody knows that Gameloft produces rip-off games. You can't deny that. But that's what we love about them. They bring games from other consoles onto the iDevice so that we can enjoy them as well. Here are a few examples of Gameloft rip-offs:
    NOVA - Halo
    Modern Combat - Modern Warfare
Hero of Sparta - God of War
Blades of Fury - Soul Callibur
    Dungeon Hunter - Diablo
    Gangstar - GTA
    Skater Nation - Tony Hawk
    GT Racing - Gran Turismo
    Zombie Infection - Resident Evil
Guitar Rock Tour - Guitar Hero
    Asphalt - Burnout

Exactly. It's just stupid to deny they produce rip-off games.

No matter how hard you try to reason, they're blatant rip-offs.

Lol I haven't played any of the original game but Diablo and Halo.

For Diablo, I suppose you never played it to make Dungeon Hunter a rip-off of it. It is very different to Diablo but followed it as did some other games. It's not a rip off at all.

Ok let say you are right but for me your list is widely suspect because of the few I know. You are making a confusion between clone and rip-off plus I applaud they didn't paid any license crap for all that games.

Open your eyes and see the reality, Doodle Jump is rip-off, Skies of Glory is rip-off, Super Ball 3 is rip-off, and many many more.

Make your list of rip-off more seriously than this, I'm still amazed that Dungeon Hunter can be considered as a rip off of Diablo.

Well you are disqualifying yourself by validating this list, the Diablo rip-off quoted is ridiculous, there's no rip-off. That said I'm disqualified too because I haven't played all those titles.

I'm not a fanboy of anything. I was named don quichotte when I was very young, I wasn't worry to defend any lost causes when I felt there was some injustice.

I know very well the fanboy argument, it's from people with no argument that throw it.

To make it clear I don't think their icatalog is good but it's not all crap and if I list the games from very good (only few) to fairly good (you enjoy only if you are a fan of the game genre), the list is rather long.

Also I don't understand why all this whining if it's not people that want hurt for no clear reason. For me they are doing a fairly good effort for idevices and if in general the result is bellow the average there's still a long list of fairly good games. Importantly for most games there's a demo enough to know the gameplay so why complain? Try the demo and don't buy if you don't like.

Also it's marvelous to want teach developing to their developers but the size is clearly shown in app store, so don't buy if the size isn't ok for you.

Live and let live, for summarizing my feeling.

Thanks to not join the crowd, that's exactly what I wrote, for me and from lite version those both titles don't have a good gameplay but I don't spite on those titles nor on Gameloft, overall it's cool they released them on idevice, some people really enjoy so live and let live.

Well, I don't know - IMHO, these two titles have a pretty nice price / performance ratio. It took me some 5-6 hours to play them thru on Medium level (could have been probably much more at Hard or, with Sandstorm, Extreme level) and really enjoyed it. Was well worth the price ($5...$8) if you consider the time you can spend with them.

(Of course, I know some other Gameloft titles on the iPad suck really hard.)

Redribbon, everyone knows about Gameloft, you don't need to teach us about them. Some people love their games, and that shouldn't be a problem to you.
