My mother is kind of a non-gamer in her mid-fifties. She plays casual jewel themed games and really old-school titles from the early 90's (she's been playing them since they were new).

My girlfriend and I just went to her house the other day and my mom was setting up the Wii she just bought for herself. She enjoys the sports games (bowling, baseball, golf) and is trying to get the hang of Wii Fitness.

I think if someone says they don't like games, it's only because they haven't found one they like yet or the game they will like, has yet to exist. They don't have the time to explore.

True that - everyone is a gamer at heart! I said my mom is not a gamer but she LOVES board games - generational thing I guess. So she is a KIND of gamer! Spazzle though? Simple, engaging to her, she likes it! She even said she never thought she would like one of those "newfangled electronic thingys love so much!"

I guess the point is we can't generalize with the guy/gal thing and its wicked annoying to see that some people still do.

Of course she's a gamer. Games are games. I love board games, and I'm sure I'm no where near her age.

I have a suggestion. I love hidden object games, and I have yet to meet someone older who doesn't get hooked on them, men and women both. It's challenging but in a very "no need to figure out what this gadget thingie does" kind of way.

Try Buckingham Palace first. It's the best.

Ah Games for Girls. The debate rages on. This probably ain't the place to do it though. I've been curious about this for years. I imagine most of the readers on this site are already mostly core-gamers, but play casual games as well. If any of the readers here are female, they aren't the target of the original question for the thread (chicken and egg sort of thing).

From what I have researched, it largely depends on the age group and the culture. For instance, a ton of girls really really want to play games that involve role-playing different jobs they will never do or always wanted to do. Such as Flight Attendant, Nurse, Hair Stylist/Makeup Artist, Tour guide/Travel agent, Flower Arranger, Patissier (Confectionery/Pastry/Chef). Call me sexist if you want (I won't mind), but that's the information I have gathered from females who want to play games like this... and it's pretty close to true.

I even have some designs on the backburner for some of those ideas... I probably even wrote an article about it once.

i have a little perspective on this... my non-gamer mother at one point liked gin rummy and Slingo, my aunt likes Tetris and my sister likes Ramp Champ, Harvest Moon and Donkey Kong Country...

Absolutely true on age and culture, though it's also true of males. For example, French teenage boys of this generation are not into video games either. Nor are many Italians boys. But hyphenate "American" into the name (Italian-American, e.g.), and it's a big part of their lives.

It really is all about exposure in a given culture.

Not sexist, no. I think that word gets thrown around a lot so as to bully people whenever a person voices an unpopular perspective (my usage of it above was clearly on point, given the genuinely insulting views of that skater person).

I do think it is a simplified opinion. However, I highly encourage you to develop an app along the lines of your opinion, because if it's true what you say, you'll make a killing with a fresh idea. :D

I had already replied about this earlier, but just to double-confirm: I had to delete one of my iDevices today, and out of curiosity, I restored as new. Sure enough, as the Apple tech support person said, it didn't try to add all 3000 apps, but rather let me choose which ones I wanted after the fresh install. So, no worries there.

Which is a good thing, as I have added about 200 apps since my last screenshot (very few are Lite or Free versions too). :D:D

Heh, no, just a bad sleeper. :D

And Ranko, way to get the point of the thread. "He", oh brother. The Tip Calculators are as yet untried. Sometimes I just buy for future use.

Well, there's nothing saying guys can't post, just about apps that women like.. Sorry, i get that a lot too,but It's hard to tell sometimes. I don't have a lot of money to spend so i wouldn't buy a bunch of different programs just for the possibility of needing one of them later, id try to find the best one and pick that. If you have the money to do that, though, go right ahead.

No worries, Ranko. I understand. :D

However, if you thought I was a guy, would I be posting screenshots of my games in a thread about "Games that Women Love"? See what I mean? Sure men can post here, but clearly it wouldn't make sense for a man to post his games here, and therefore it must be a woman poster doing so.

I myself like hidden object games but I know her - she will say she can't see them etc - remember she is late 60's so for her to be playing any electronic device is huge! She was recently in the hospital and my dad and I tried to get her to play scramble and she did not understand how to drag her finger on the words but she DID like yahtzee - for a day at least. Spazzle is one she really enjoys still - big graphics, easy concept and the occasional "oh shoot" when she hits a cat! She plays solitare on her ancient mac. It only has 356mb of memory!
