I won't touch it, so I can't answer. Just the presence of an "in game store" is offensive just in its nature. It is sad that games have devolved into this and that there are people out there defending being sold things inside a game. You are working directly for the game company's best interests and you may not even realize it. All you can see is the word "free" blazed above it.
That's what I figured. You haven't played it, and are just criticizing it on principle because you're against IAPs. I'm not sure what you're on about here. This isn't a free game, so I'm not sure what "it" is above which "free" is blazed. And I don't consider it some dirty secret that game development is a business to make money. I'm getting at least $7 worth of enjoyment out of this game, so I have no problem with the fact that the developer's interests are served by getting my $7. I'm also fine with them offering additional things for sale as long as they're not shoving them in my face. I've even (gasp) made in-app-purchases in some games when it seemed worth it to me, though so far I haven't seen any reason to make any in this game.
Why would I need to play a game to criticize IAP in general? In this case, not free, but freer. Same concept. "'ve even (gasp) made in-app-purchases in some games when it seemed worth it to me,"- Yes, as I said...you are part of the problem.
When you have a choice between being dogmatic and being pragmatic, you'll find yourself a lot happier in life choosing to be pragmatic. The optional purchases in Godfire are NO DIFFERENT than the type of pre-order "exclusives" offered by all the AAA console games. "Get a new gun when you buy through gamestop!" "Get a new armor at Best Buy!" "Buy them all on Xbox Live for 2 bucks each!" "Buy a season pass!". He question is, and should always be, about whether the experience of playing the game is damaged by the way the developer is trying to make a living. In many games, the experience of playing is seriously damaged by monetization - I absolutely, completely agree with that premise. Dungeon Hunter 4 is a great example - every time you customize your inventory, there are IAP weapons shown everywhere and popups about limited time offers. Hell, I recently wrote a long review trashing Rayman Fiesta Run for spamming Facebook links everywhere (In French, no less!). The thing is, the IAP options in THIS game, here, today, really aren't bad. Your outrage would be better spent on games with monetization schemes more deserving of it. And if you really want to complain about Godfire, there are legitimate things wrong that are far worse than the monetization scheme. Like the way movement and combat make you constantly feel like you're swimming around in a pool of molasses.
Umm, preordering something is paying the same price, but getting extra stuff. IAP is just paying extra for extra stuff that was withheld. Completely different.
What happens if you don't preorder, but still want the item? They'll be more than happy to take your money on Xbox Live.
The comparison is still incredibly poor. One is free items if you preorder vs the idea that you buy a game and then find a store in the game, selling more crap(it is never free if you preorder).
Meh, pick a better example then, they're easy to find. DLC weapon packs in Mass Effect, horse armor in Oblivion, golden guns in Uncharted. All I'm saying is, this isn't unprecedented. And that was the least important part of what I was talking about, anyways.
No, I'm just not fanatically against IAPs, because I understand that it's just a mechanism for making payments and I have nothing against paying money for something on principle. I do dislike the way a lot of games use IAPs, but plenty of other games use them in ways that I think are fine, or at worst harmless. Being against all IAPs just because some games use them badly doesn't make any more sense to me than being against the existence of loans just because loan sharks exist. The only reason a simplistic stance like that would make sense to me is for people who don't feel competent to distinguish between good and bad loans, or good and bad gaming purchases.
Ooooh so this is where all the removed posts in Godfire thread are! Okay so I haven't played Godfire, like you, shadow9d9, but: This is pretty unwise of you, seeing that: (1) this thread is about "Godfire IAP Debate and Discussion." You are therefore not only being off-topic but also biased. (2) IAP in general is not evil in any way, it is the way app developers implement them that can be questionable or intrusive. You are therefore not only criticizing the wrong subject, but - since you claimed to have not played Godfire - you do not know anything about the way the dev implemented IAP to criticize them. (3) seriously, why burst a vein over a game you didn't even buy?
Lol, this convo is so full of contradictions, prejudices and assumptions; it's also hilarious to see people cursing one thing and defending or not caring about the same thing in other games. You've got some serious First World Problems here.
Please no more IAP rants... That's how people get their money. There's countless apps on the AppStore that get no attention whatsoever. So that means no profit. What's the best way to solve a low profit on any mobile game? No matter how long or hard you rant about it what's that gonna change. If you don't like the game why tell everyone else it's not worth purchasing by you're opinion? Who's to say they would be glad to pay IAP's? (Which is most of the brainless robotic reviewers on the AppStore for many, many apps) That's modern mobile gaming. If you don't like it then why are you still here? Go complain to the developers.
Has anyone here even bought and played/completed the game? It seems to be complaining for the sake of complaining.
Yeah, this thread is mostly just a debate about the concept of IAPs and DLCs in general. There is a real Godfire thread for discussing the actual game, which you can find linked to from the main Godfire page on TA. I've just finished the game on Normal difficulty and posted some impressions.
Generally speaking I'm pretty sure that yes, it can. IAPs can be used in lots of different ways, from virtual coins to cosmetic items to extra levels to fully featured expansion packs. It has probably already been said countless times, but IAPs are not inherently bad. Some games use them in an annoying way? True. But it's not an universal law
This is exactly why we've started splitting threads up, otherwise the main Godfire thread would be absolutely ruined and totally derailed by people who haven't even played the game who just want to be mad about IAP. Sigh.
It's about blocking content that should have been in the game first hand,Like I said weapons were clearly created and included in version 1 of the game they are not new content but content that has been blocked out just for the sake of extra money, there should have been a way to achieve it ingame.Horse armor I think was given away in a free update in oblivion. It's not about heing irritated it's the feeling of being cheated by devs who simply blocked out ingame content for money sonething that should have been in it already.I'm all for fair iap's but this is a very shoddy practice, Everything can be justified by making lame excuses such as 'you don't need it to complete the game' and such yes I don't not need it to complete the game but it certainly takes way from the fun of the game when powerful equipment is put behind paywalls. Next they'll put in timers and 100$ iap's in the game and will still justify it by another lame excuse, the simple fact is that they can do whatever they want and add whatever they want to their game but that wouldn't justify it,They rightly deserve this crap for insulting their customers. They could have technically blocked the survival mode too and said the same 'You don't need it...' thing, that would have been the same exact case as this one and I'm sure people willd defend it even then. There is no end to it there are no hard rules for it and they can get away with everything nowdays,But then you should be prepared for all the criticisms that come with it.
You defended this game and bashed the GREAT infinity blade series. Usually I disagree with reviews here anyway, because I bought oceanhorn (5/5 on TA) and it was one of the worst, most repetitive, least fun pieces of garbage I've ever played. I'd rather play all 400,000 flappy bird clones than sit through that ripoff trash game. There are also ads for it smeared throughout this site... *vomits in mouth* Also, remember the time you guys rated Limbo 3/5? Yeaahhh I don't go on here that much.
iAP is a problem, you know. A big problem. Does the 3DS or PS Vita have this problem? Nope. You know why? The games on there are actually good. I'd rather spend 40 on a great, lengthy portable game than spend $200 on a repetitive, "paynium" mobile game.
