Looks like a scam to me. Besides, I'm not going to spam my friends inboxes just for the sake of some MS points.
I am somewhat confuzzled as to how the website would determine how many people you've sent the website to. And how exactly are the people running the site able to afford purchasing the points anyway? This just screams garbage. Or theft. Take your pick.
It probably is self-promotion; even if it isn't his site he probably benefits from it somehow, like people posting Amazon links with their affiliate URL. It's basically advertising. No idea what MS points are, but it's not a good reason to spam.
MS Points=Microsoft Points, used for digital downloads over XBox Live or on the Internet. I think the point of posting the link was to get these MS Points, as the more people you refer, the more points you'll get. Which also brings about the question again: How the crap do they tell how many people followed YOUR link? EDIT: Okay, I get it now; your link that they give you has a specific "i=######" tag in the URL. But there's no place to insert a Gamertag or anything, so it looks like a total scam still.
