I'm glad the only thing not agreed upon was the 'money hungry' with the example of freemium which is why I put "at least in this case " Freemium isn't for everyone and not everyone likes it but many people do. I've read people's posts using GL as an excuse for being nervous for the sake of humanity. The senseless crap coming from their keyboards is what puts me, personally, on edge. As for the little red number, it's been widely discussed on this forum that Apple should have an option to 'hide update'. This is not GL's fault. If u want to keep this game on ur device forever-and-ever, I guess that's ur choice to deal with it. If u don't want this game but want to keep ur progress, take some time from complaining and find out how to back it up, or ask. I can link anyone to an article in that case. I mean, ur already on the Internet, why not. If u despise the ads, take literally 3 seconds to jump into 'airplane mode' to disable them, I doubt u want notifications while playing anyways. If u want to keep complaining, might as well do it anonymously because now u'd look like an idiot.
Wow. Can't believe people are pathetically defending Gameloft putting ads in a game a whole lot of people paid for. Sorry, but it's annoying having to go to settings and turning off wi-fi on my iPod Touch all the time to just to play a game. And guess what, if I do that then I can't get FaceTime calls from people which I use a lot. Think if all your Xbox 360 games you downloaded and paid money for all of a sudden got nothing but ads all over the screen, even Halo Reach and Call of Duty. It would be wrong, same as here. the complaints here are very legitamite and anyone trying to defend them is real sad. Why didn't the idiots at gameloft make another release of the game free with ads?
I'm not defending them, just logically saying it's NOT REALLY THAT BAD. Firstly you are never required to update. They state specifically that you SHOULDN'T update so they're not trying to sneak in ads, they're saying they're coming out. And the ads aren't in gameplay from what Gameloft said, not like they're 'all over the screen' everywhere. I'm not saying Gameloft made the best move, but it's sure as heck an evil or money-hungry move imo...PLUS these are old games, which VERY few people play actively anymore. Now, if you still actively play this game, then feel free to disagree with that statement, but I honestly doubt you do...No offense, but think of these with full rationale. It was also a special promotion (four free games on their twitter/facebook forever) so it's not gonna happen any time soon again (and not with any of their best games, either).
Ads are in the in-game cut scenes as well. Either way it's a stupid move on gamelofts part. It's also really stupid to say "oh it's ok, just don't update.". Really? I'm not the only one who has said it but it's rather an annoyance to have a notification update number reminding you that you have an update in your system. Like many, I want to get rid of it. Also defeats the purpose of the update all button in itunes. Sometimes I even push it without reading what the updates are all about. And what does it matter how many people still play it? I'm sure there still are people who play it or like others have stated were planning to go back to it. Why does it matter how many? These people paid for the game. They should be able to go back to it to replay it any time they want without ads cause they paid for the game. I don't know how many times I've replaid older games. So what the hell does it matter how many people still play it? What idiotic reasoning is behind that? Other posters have made a good point. There's no good reason gameloft should have done this since they easily have the option to make another versioin that is ad-filled
Bump. Fact: it takes a lot less effort to actively deal with it than to complain about it. haters gon' hate
Well, I'm sure no fanboy of gameloft. I hate them lately, especially with their freemium crap. Can't wait for them to go back to making solid games like the NOVA, MC, and Spiderman series'
It's not hard to post meaningless dribble when all u want to do is complain. Not exactly a fanboy either, just tryna talk sense into people. Like feeding a dead horse this is going nowhere, it's ur choice if u want to be stupid. Any and all possible complaints are addressed unless u like notifications while playing then I'm sorry I can't help u.
So if a concern is not your own then it's not valid? We shouldn't have to be inconvenienced when we legitimately paid for the game. Sure, if you got it for free then it's no big deal. But I bought a game without ads and it should remain that way. You have not once responded to our inquiry of why they couldn't leave the paid app alone and turn the free one into a full version with ads. And to say discussing it here gets us nowhere? That may be right, but Toucharcade is widely read, and the app store negative reviews might get their attention. Maybe if enough people speak up they'll listen and do what we've all been suggesting. If everyone just takes it lying down and pats them on their back for their mistakes, then they'll continue making these mistakes, as they'll see no one cares.
First reason: the four apps were released as a hyped promotion by gameloft that the games would drop to free with ads in non-gameplay areas. Second reason: There's no way Gameloft would allow a free+ads and a paid version on the app store both. So, pretty much, my question for you is this: Would you rather have it on the app store now as it is, free with ads (which you don't have to update btw. I only generally update my apps when it's something I want or new content.) or would you rather them have made a new free with ads version and pulled YOUR version off the store...
There's no point, dude. They want to complain. For anyone looking for a way to better the situation, I recommend u read my posts on the previous page.
Why does it matter if it's a hyped promotion? It doesn't give them good reason to fill a paid game with ads. Why wouldn't they allow a free version with ads and a paid version to exist? What reason could they possibly have? I'm happy for you that you only update the games you want to update, but I'm like most people I know and want everything updated. I usually push the "update all" button myslef, empty trash, and then later went on these forums just to find out a game I paid for on release day gets it's update with ads. And yes I hate that notification reminder I have an update and obviously others do to. So I would rather they have 2 versions, one paid and one free. If only one version, then they should have the sense to keep it as a paid version in respect to tens of thousands of people who paid for the game.
While I don't agree that "Gameloft would never do so and so" is a valid argument, or that we should be thrilled because we got the lesser of two evils, I'll humor you. So, if they absolutely can't/won't have two full versions, one with ads and one without, then why not an IAP to remove ads, with the game recognizing those who already paid for it. As someone else mentioned, other developers have done this successfully, so Gameloft should be able to as well. Then *no one* would complain.
Have to admit myself that this probly would have been the best way they could have handled it. It would have been best for everyone, honestly. Not that I'm surprised they didn't though, since it's not the way Gameloft does things....but at least remember you aren't forced to update.
That would be a good idea, though would have made sense to do that from the beginning. Since they already did a dumb ass update that added ads, there's no way for it to recognize who had it before the last update. Also for convenience, it's better to have a seperate version if they didn't release the game like that from the beginning. If I took it off my system to save room, pushed that update all button, and decided to put it back on not realizing the last update added ads, I would have to pay for the game again to remove the ads. Again, why do you think can't they have a seperate version like many other apps have done so? Also the lesser of the 2 evils...it's better they not have gone down the "evil" path in the first place. Only people that won't have a problem with this is if they didn't buy it in the first place, then they can try to justify the evil, though how meaningless it will be, but for the people who got cheated because they supported the game by paying, it's a horrible move.
/facepalm Pay to remove ads? How about take 3 seconds to disable them. U guys are so stupid it's unbelievable. No sense whatsoever.
