They share a similar art style but are two completely different games. But you make a good point. I might need to come up with a new background artwork to eliminate this confusion.
Here are some new screenshots showing the game's new look. Stay tuned since tomorrow will be an even bigger day with the release of a video showing off the gameplay for the first time!
Here it is, video showing off game play! [hqyoutube]qWg3FIdKz-o[/hqyoutube] To celebrate the release of the first look video, I'm offering another chance to win a free copy of the game when it comes out. Here are the contest rules. There are ten funny disclaimers shown quickly in the video. The first five people to post a reply to this thread with one of those disclaimers will win a free copy. The disclaimer must match word for word as the one shown in the video. You must only post one of the disclaimers to give others a chance to post the others. If two people post the same disclaimer, then the first person will win and the other person will need to post again with a new reply with a different disclaimer. Any posts that were edited will not be eligible to win (in case anyone tries to save a spot and then post the disclaimer later).
jak56, you aren't allowed to edit the post but I saw your original one which was correct so you're fine. You don't have to post the 'Disclaimer this game is addicting and may lead to:' part, just the disclaimer message after it. Four more free copies left to give out!
Yep, the contest is now over. We have our winners! jak56, Syao, Whosatm, wahseh and brerlappin. I'll PM you a code for a free copy here on touch arcade when the game is released in February. I'll start a different contest tomorrow for another chance to win!
I've seen it and my eyes have since melted... Being lucky enough to see some preview builds, Vexorg (Joshua Levine), has struck gold again! The video pretty much showed you what to expect except for maybe one cool little bit which is the quest system. In the midst of play you'll occasionally see a little "!" power-up which, once picked up you will be given some special objective which once achieved will give you a big point bonus. These missions can vary from fairly easy to kind of nasty ("Score 5,000+ in a single chain." or "Make a 7+ chain of squares."). If at anytime you forget your current mission simply pause the game and there it is on the pause screen for you to gander as long as you like. Lose the game before it is completed and that quest is lost. Just to make the quests even more vital they're also the key to unlocking some of the game's power-ups. Basically you'll see from the main menu an option to check out the power-ups currently available and which are still locked along with how many more successful quests until the next power-up is unlocked. So it is sort of a meta-game thing (sort of gives you actions in your current game relevance to your future plays of the game).
Great work with this Josh, I really think Chains is a great game, from the graphics to the very interesting gameplay, and you've done so much work in beta it's amazing. Everyone should definitely check this out.
Thanks guys for posting your impressions. It really is hard to get the word out on a new game when you've developed a game by yourself (I've done everything myself, from the coding to the art to the marketing in my spare time). I need the help of the touch arcade community to give me feedback and to help spread the word. So please reply to this thread on your impressions of the game play video, what you like and don't like about what you see. This will help me make sure I've delivered an amazing game the moment it is released. And if you like what you see, tell your friends about it and link them to this thread. This will help me immensely. Now to the fun stuff. If you missed out on the contest yesterday, I'm starting a new contest that will run for the next four days. The video contains ten funny disclaimers. I want people to come up with a new disclaimer that fits with the theme of the game. An example would be "Disclaimer, playing this game may result in dreaming of shapes." Post your new disclaimer (not one from the video) as a reply to this thread and the three I like the best will win a free copy of the game when it comes out. The disclaimer must be one sentence and only one disclaimer allowed per person. The contest ends Sunday, Jan 31th at 10:00pm Pacific Standard Time and I'll pick the winners then.
